Roles of state and federal governments in dealing with globalization
- The government should enforce ensure that globalization does not affect the environment through licensing strictly environmental friendly practices. (Haugen et al, 20-10) Globalization requires good policy adoption by both governments due to the extensive backlash that would undermine the political support to the open global economy. This can only be achieved by forcing and international integration that does not lead to the local disintegration.
- Both the federal and state governments have a participatory role in the international business and global economy. The annual tax collected from the foreign investors is paramount and can support the local economy in the country. Creation of jobs and will elevate the living standards of the locals. Foreign companies need big markets, and the government should accord the necessary support in order re investors to encourage more and more investors. (Gabriela, 2011).
- The governments have enacted the policies to enhance free trade and supported the NAFTA, and this has positively impacted the economy through increased the exports to Mexico, creation of jobs and increased investment opportunities.
Government's role in protecting citizens from the potential negative effects of foreign MNEs conducting business in your country.
- The government should also enact and enforce policies to protect personal properties, as well as intellectual properties.
- The government should promote voluntary exchanges imposed by markets rather political processes.
- The government has a role to regulate labor, credit and business, as well as the economic transparency of all actors including the regulatory agencies.
Kinds of government actions I would you recommend.
- The government can adopt policies that would increase the benefits of globalization such as making their markets accessible to poor countries.
- Facilitation of direct investment, private capital and technology to third world countries.
- Tax reliefs to these countries can go a long way to benefit them from globalization.
