Statements1. Scientists are making up climate change data in order to get more research funding.
Pro: Some scientists are being paid by high officials in the oil industry to censor or suppress their findings on climate change. Also, there are some climate change scientists who are fighting for commercial funding; thus, making their researches unique.
Con: Climate change is real and is not being made up by the scientists. There are evidences all around the globe that climate change is real. Storms are much stronger now. Hurricanes are more devastating. In some parts of the world, there are droughts. Glaciers are melting more rapidly and global sea levels are rising. Several researches have been made that prove that the world is now experiencing climate change.
2. Modern warming is part of natural climate variability and is in no way the result of human activity Pro: Some scientists claim that modern warming is a result of the solar activity. They claim that there is an increase in sun spots; thus, making the Earth warmer.
Con: It is not true that modern warming is just part of natural climate variability. A lot of human activities have contributed to global warming. These activities include deforestatioan and the burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil for the production of energy.3. The United States needs to make policies that address climate change a number 1 priority.
Pro: Since the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports climate change is occurring and that human activity is primarily responsible, the United States government should prioritize the drafting policies to address the issue. Some control mechanisms should be done to prevent Americans from contributing to the causes of climate change. The development of other sources of energy other than from fossil fuels, must be made into policies or laws so citizens and industries will be forced to follow.
Con: Climate change should not be the number one priority of the United States government; rather, they should focus on economic recovery. If the country can improve its economic and financial status, it can effectively address issues such as climate change.
