I agree with Alkhalaqi and Albukhari’s presentation on the various issues that precipitate the prevalence of childhood obesity. Above all, the presentation delves on the fact that childhood obesity is precipitated by genetic and environmental factors. Furthermore, dietary habits have a colossal influence in determining the occurrence of obesity in children. The current presentation notes that children who eat at home are less likely to get obese than those who eat away from home because adequate diets are served at home. Westernization and physical activity patterns also determine the occurrence of obesity. Lack of physical activity in children due to watching of televisions can increase the occurrence of childhood obesity. From the analysis of the presentation, it is clear that there is a need for school programs that will address the well fare of children and come up with adequate interventions crucial in reducing obesity in children.
I have gained insights on different factors that influence the occurrence of obesity. Being a parent of a four year old kid, I have come to realize that making children consume adequate foods such as vegetables and fruits is not an easy task. Many at times, I try my best to ensure that my child consumes adequate diets, but at times she develops a negative attitude towards such diets. What I have gained from this presentation will certainly affect how I will raise my kid. I will ensure that my kid does not get addicted to television programs, which will reduce his physical activity; hence, predisposing him to obesity (Alkhalaqi & Albukhari, Childhood Obesity in Saudi Arabia: How should we intervene?”). Overall, I will ensure that my child consumes adequate diets that will improve his health and wellbeing. I am a bit worried on what will happen when my son enrols for school. Nevertheless, I will use what I have learned in this presentation to convince the school that my kid will enrol in to ensure that they develop a program that ensure that structures are put up in the school to address issues on child wellbeing. In conclusion, this presentation offers critical insights on the topic of childhood obesity that continues to puzzle many.
