The organization that was chosen is the Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). The BGCA is a national organization that is composed of local chapters that endeavors to provide after-school programs for the youth. The BGCA is granted with congressional charter by the American government under Title 36 of the U.S. Code. This organization is partly funded by the government and enjoys tax-exemption privileges.
The organization is actively involved in providing a better future for the youth as part of its corporate social responsibility to the community. BGCA ensures the safety and protection of young boys and girls, and at the same to instill in them the sense of competence to help them reach their full potential as responsible citizens in the future.
The main factors that influenced BGCA to become actively involved in rearing and guiding the youth to become responsible and successful citizens in the future are due to low graduation rates, high drop-out rates, unemployment, poor health, juvenile delinquency, crimes, alcohol addiction and substance abuse. BGCA believes that America has failed its promise to the youth to promote the right to education since 2010 studies have shown that only 3 out of 10 young individuals do not graduate from school. BGCA believes that the young people are the nation’s hope because they will become the future voters, workers and community members who will be influential in changing the world. BGCA continuously strives to empower the youth of tomorrow by giving them hope of a brighter future by helping them finish their education. BGCA maintains that by seeing the youth graduate from school means that they will acquire the earning power they need to become financially stable in the future. This philanthropic advocacy of BGCA has influenced the social responsibility strategies of the organization.
BGCA has a social initiative in helping the youth graduate from school so that they will become productive citizens in the future, and in return, will benefit the community. The social initiative on the part of BGCA is its strategic plan of action to help the youth through after-school programs. This action on the part of BGCA is beyond the call of duty since it is done of diligence, passion, and a sincere concern for the good of the communities and the entire nation. The social initiative that is being shown by BGCA is an essential tool to initiate change in the community for the greater good. The intergenerational responsibility to care of the children since they are the hope of our nation is the driving force of the organization to continue with its mission.
The potential ethical or moral effects of the organization’s social initiative is the possible conflicts within families since the organization is bent on helping kids who are in crisis such as drug addiction, alcohol abuse, crimes, juvenile delinquency and abusive families. There may be conflicts within the parents of these children who may not want any interference from the organization and decline their offer to help their kids. It is important for the organization to ensure that the parents of these kids have entrusted their children under the care of BGCA in order to avoid possible conflicts in the future. The mission of BGCA is to provide opportunities that will allow career exploration and educational enhancement of the youth to ensure a brighter future for them, as they participate in community and nation building.
