Dear Mr. Jones
I am so glad that I can communicate with you through e-mail whenever I have something to say. It is good that you got your doubts about the technology cleared. I am sure you must be finding it a useful and convenient means to communicate with others as well. I am sure you will agree with me that technology has made many things simple and possible. Do you remember that notice sent to Darr Brothers by the Govt. officials? My friend who works there told me about it because the circumstances were similar. I could complete all the formalities even before the Govt. Officials approached us. I always make it a point to remain in touch with all my contacts in other companies. We often chat about policy matters and it keeps me up-dated. I feel comfortable working when I have complete knowledge of all the latest developments. Indeed, there is much to be said in favour of social networking.
I was rather shocked and surprised when I heard of our company’s decision to cut off access to social networking sites. I agree that it is inappropriate to indulge in social networking during work hours and at the expense of the company. However, I feel that cutting off access completely would be an extreme step. When telephones were newly introduced, employees did use them to make personal calls. But if the telephone lines had been cut off, business would have been hampered to a great extent.
There are bound to be some people who waste time and chat without purpose, but thinking seriously about the matter, I feel they are few. All our employees have set targets. How much time can they find for unnecessary chatting? And one has to maintain relationships with people who can be of use. We cannot merely talk business with them. Sparing a few minutes to enquire about them is always rewarding in the long run.
Do you think the CEO can be convinced about the advantages that outweigh the disadvantages of social networking? Wouldn’t it be advisable to restrict the use of social networking for fixed hours instead of stopping it completely? This is my opinion, because personally, I have been using Facebook and twitter for the last six years and it has been useful to me in my personal life as well as in my career. Your recent discovery about the advantages of e-mail is sure proof of technological tools.
When I heard about the CEO’s decision, I was disappointed and shocked, and my immediate reaction was intense. I thought you would be the best person to share my thoughts with. I hope you understand. I know that you always argue your point in meetings when you are convinced. I am sure you understand. I trust that you will always strive to do what is beneficial for the company.
I always feel good when I share my thoughts with you, thanks to the e-mail, which takes me across to you within minutes!
Thank you sir,
Have a good day!
W. Sanders
