I would like to present my point of view in favor of “The Sleeper Curve” and Johnson’s Thesis, that watching TV is making people smarter, pay attention to it, make them relate with characters, adapt certain gestures and linguistics into their daily lives. One of my experiences is with the most famous TV show “Game of Thrones”. Beginning from its title song sequence, ending with every minute detail on the story line, everything is brilliant. It has created a permanent impact on so many millions of people. I would like to mention a few major factors which make Game of Thrones an addictive TV show:
- Quality: The story, casting, direction, acting, costume, and investment on scene creation everything stands out as best. Every scene makes me feel like if I am living it.
- Theme of Power: Even the most complex of characters makes an easy impression on viewers’ minds with its easy to follow story line. A range of kings, queens, knights and horses takes its viewers on a journey to a different world.
- Characters: The ability to relate to a character in the show, creates real involvement. There are many such characters in GoT. To name a few, Tyrion Lannister, Khaleesi, Robb Stark, Ned Stark, Arya. I personally relate myself to Ned Stark.
- Notable Dialogue: Certain dialogues, especially most of Tyrion Lannister’s are very notable and have been put into normal language use among young people.
- Unexpected Twists: Unexpected twists and turns in this TV drama adds more spice to it. It makes its viewers realize that no character is very safe on this show, no matter how powerful they are. To mention, Episode 9 in Season 1.
So, Game of Thrones has really added a spice and thrill to my TV time. This TV drama will definitely be a happy part of my life and a memory to cherish upon.
