Co-Payments: Haseltine (2013) Co-Payment is a small portion of the price paid by an insured person when they get a service. Co-Payments should be based on income, the higher the income; the higher the cost. Everyone is obliged except those who cannot pay. Insurance companies and healthcare organizations are not affected by this system. All HMO holders seeking medical service are affected especially those who receive high income. This system should not affect the quality and safety of a medical service because those who pays higher compensates for those who pays none or less.
Differentiated Service: Haseltine (2013) asserts that in a public hospital, all people should have access to same doctors, medical equipment and same medical procedures. The difference would be the amenities each patient would want to avail. Patients who pay less will be placed in a public ward and those who pay more have access to semi-private or private wards. Insurance companies and healthcare organizations are not affected by this system. This system should not affect the quality of a medical service, but it might affect the safety of the patients because those who cannot avail higher amenities will have to join other patients in the public ward.
Reuse Surgical Equipment: Park (2009) claims that most of the surgical equipment are discarded after use. This is to prevent the next patient to be infected by a previous patient. With the advancement of the methods of sterilization, we may be able to use this surgical equipment again. It will greatly reduce the costs of healthcare especially in the public hospital. Sometimes buying new surgical equipment is cheaper than sterilizing them, but with the majority of surgical equipment, sterilizing and reusing them is cheaper. This method will not affect the insurance companies, but it might raise debates for healthcare organizations. With this method, the patients will be given the option to use brand new or sterilized surgical equipment for their operation.
