Review of Physical Images in South African Theatre
Mark Fleishman’s article “Physical Images in the South Africa” explores the meaning of theatre in the African context and the Western context. The author tends to relate the views held by renowned personalities in the art such as Lecoq. In the view of this critic, the world is a theatre of incessant movement and to frank, other than being arena for recitation, the theatre must comprise of elements such as color, complexity, and rhythm.
Although artists agree that the physical body forms part of the process, in South African theatre it serves as part of the text. Moreover, the physical body in the South African theatre is a genesis of the basic meaning which constantly challenges hegemony of the written word in an attempt to create meaning. The movement in the South African theatre comprises of the official choreographed dance sequence to physical gestures and the words have simply become insufficient. The movement in South African theatre is something that seems to changing every now and then. Further, the author associates the physical movement in South African theatre to a metaphor. Every movement performed in the theatre seems to project a certain issue. Lastly, the physical images in South African theatre project multiplicity of meaning. In limited words, the image is complex, ambiguous, and multi-valent.
Review of Avatar
The movie “Avatar” is not only sensational entertainment, but also a technical breakthrough. Written in 1996 and produced in the year 2006, Avatar is no doubt one of the most creative pieces of the film industry. It is full of antiwar message and green images that symbolize the alien world. Some critics argue that the movie predestines the launch of a cult. The visual detailing of the movie does not only herald repeated viewing, but also provides a rich message about the themes exhibited by the director. Avatar is in 2154, and it involves the U.S Soldiers invading an alien world where people are of different skin to that which we see on earth. Arguably, it presents the viewer with a perfect chance to imagine about features that do not exist.
The invasion presented in the movie seems to point out that the earth could be susceptible to the threat from the alien forces. The landscape in the alien continent makes soldiers from earth to become pygmies while the atmosphere does not contain breathable air. Since, the movie presents a perfect art of imagination, the heroic act of the soldiers that invade the alien world illustrate admirable courage that some people have. This courage makes the movie attractive and worth watching one more time. In summary, the director used the images to tell the powerful story.
Research of Ready-made
Available literature shows that Duchamp, the creator of ready-made developed this artistic piece in protest against what he termed as importance directed against works of art. As the name of the work suggests, it is an art piece that consist of already made parts. Arguably, what Duchamp did was to mount a bicycle wheel on a stool. Although the development produced a single item, he considered this work readymade because it consisted of ready-made materials.
A number of critics believe that Duchamp readymade pieces heralded a new age in art, which set new methods of doing art. Before Duchamp, ready-made artists struggle, to produce new or unique objects. Largely, this is what the society regarded as artistic.
The move by Duchamp destroyed the common the common held notion about the uniqueness in art. In fact, he set the controversial definition which defines art as intellectual practice as opposed material process. The change of art definition has heralded an age where artist need to struggle to come up with unique items, but they can use the existing art pieces produce sophisticated pieces.
Review of Bicycle Wheel, Bottle Rack by Duchamp
Duchamp art pieces Bicycle Wheel and Bottle Rack marked the new age in art. Previously, the society had associated artist with production of unique items in the society. Nevertheless, Duchamp Bicycle Wheel and Bottle Rack are rather art pieces that are common because he used already existing art pieces to produce them. Duchamp pieces tend to expand the definition of art from creation of unique items to material process. Arguably, from this new definition, artists received freedom of creating their objects without bothering to create a unique item.
Although Bicycle Wheel or Bottle Rack does not project uniqueness on the part of the artist, they tend to show what imagination would create. Arguably, the joining of two existing pieces is a sign of how the artist imaged and created his items. Some critics believe that Duchamp art pieces wanted to reduce words to their non-communicative status, expressing nothing of the intention of mind that might speak them by no one they defy interpretation into something else, and their subsumption into under a generic concept. In summary, Duchamp is the author of generic art.
Different between performance and experience
Performance and experience are two different aspects yet closely related. Performance is a move enacted by the artist and presented to the world. This performance would demonstrate the artist ability to project his feeling through scripted or unscripted methods, yet what he would present in the form of performance would represent a carefully planned or item that he developed as accident, it can be either completely anarchic or highly orchestrated. In some situations, performance art may combine all the above elements.
Performance is interdisciplinary that is it incorporates elements of sculpture, dance, painting, music and theatre among other aspects of visual whereas experience is specific in the sense an artist can only build experience in a given field e.g. painting. Largely, as one performs a given discipline in art, he builds experience in that field. Thus, the vibrancy of the artist depends on the performance. Experience is continuous, and it gives existence of unity, whereas performance does not. The quality of the art performance depends on the number of years that one has been a given discipline of art. Thus, it gives the impression in the art disciplines. Performance art occur anywhere and it last as long as the artist wishes to whereas experience is historic.
