How much influence should the committee have in the overall management structure?
Organization structure set the functions, culture, relationship and responsibility of every department and workers in the organization. Therefore, the committee influence should be restricted to the mandate and jurisdiction of the department. Since, the structure set the functions and the role of the committee; the committee influence should be felt on its functions and the role it is supposed to accomplish. As such, the committee should do its work and hand over to the product of its work to the overall management (Loucks et al., 2011).
How would you maintain authority without adopting an autocratic leadership style?
As the chairman/leader of the committee, it’s my jurisdiction to make sure the committee accomplishes its goals in a timely manner, and all the members have contributed. Thus, structure of the committee should be flat, and all the members have equal powers and responsibility in the committee. The task handed over to the committee by the overall management of the organization should be shared or delegated equitably to all members of the organization depending on their professional competence. The chairman role will be to supervise; making sure every member is doing his/her part task to beat the deadline of the task. Make major decisions such as when to hand over the final product of the committee to the management (Loucks et al., 2011).
How would you set up an employee team without violating union and labors laws?
The first assignment before setting up the committee is to do thorough research on the labor laws and ethics to update myself on areas that are considered violation of the employees’ rights. The team would consist of all professionals required for the task and make sure there is a balance of gender. In addition, the representatives of the unions would be welcome to oversee the functions of the committee. The union will act as an oversight body to the functions of the committee (Loucks et al., 2011)
