Five-Year career objectives- One Goal
In the next five years, I aim to rise into the managerial rank and when possible become a managing director of one of the hotels in the country. Managing has been my area of interest and plan to exercise my managerial skills in one of the largest hotels in the next five years. Teamwork and good combination skills are some of my strengths. Apart from good communication skills, I have also learnt some managerial skills that can help me move through the ranks easily. To achieve these goals, I have a plan of furthering my education on management. I have a plan of taking some remedial lessons on managerial that will help me to learn more about management. Apart from remedial lessons, I strongly feel that starting practicing management skills in smaller companies will help me develop the required skills before moving to a bigger company. I, therefore, plan to begin off as an apprentice manager in one of the local hotels to gain more experience.
The future will be influenced by different scenarios that will determine the future, that is, whether I will attain the aim or not. Indecisiveness is a weakness that can easily affect my decision in the future. It cannot be forecasted that I will have attained the required skills before the end of five years. Lack of good decision making can greatly influence the steps I might take in the next five years. The weak job hunting skills that I possess might mean that I might even lack a job by the end of five years.
Apart from the personal weaknesses, there are also some of the considerable factors that influence the field of management. One of the factors is the economic challenges which are very unpredictable. Most of the hotels hire managers considering how well off they are economically. The unpredictable scenarios such as the economic recession are some of these factors that might hamper with the five-year goal plan that I have put into place.
Five-year career action plan- specific action plan
5-Step Process
B. Control Section
First of all, the objectives will be divided into sections within a particular range of year. A particular plan is aimed to be achieved within a particular period that is, within a period of a year. After the collapse of a year, the strategies will be evaluated to see whether the goals have been achieved or not. However, to avoid time wastage all the years will be divided into quarters where each and every quarter will be discussed on its own. Failure to achieve one goal in a year will not influence the next year’s objective but will rather lead to many schedules. Say for example, if I am not successful in learning the relevant managerial language in year one will mean that the following year I will need to learn such a language while at the same time meeting different stakeholders.
Objective and standard
Objectives and standards will act as the directors in this plan. Setting standards to meet within a period will make me keep on the action plan track. It is these standards that I can always refer to in case of decision making. The objectives already set in this case will act as the standards of reference. Apart from personal objectives, I will also consider revising some of the national requirements for a manager to come up with the best standards.
Measure actual performance
The actual performances will be measured after a particular period. Controlling is a way of making sure that you are within the scope of what you planned. To attain the plan, I will measure what I have achieved after a period, say to evaluate whether I have graduated with the grade that aimed to. If not then an appropriate action will be taken.
Compare results with objectives and standards
After measuring the actual performance, I will compare the results with what is in the standards and the objectives. Referring to the standards and the objectives is always the best way not to derail from the goals. In case, the actual performance is not reflecting what is in the standards, I will take the next strategy which involves taking the relevant correction plan of action.
Take corrective action as needed.
A corrective action in case of derailing and moving away from the objectives will be the best way to correct the mess. The corrective action should be as swift as possible so as to avoid more mess. In my case, I will be evaluating my action plans within a span period of four months. This will help me to note where I never did well and hence take the correct action step such as revisit the area I never did well.
