Attending a music show is always a great journey. It provides you with a great opportunity to be a part of a spectacular story, while being involved in the same mood and emotions that the performers. Music concerts always enrich your soul with new energy, brighten your life and make you fill with happiness. I got the whole range of positive emotions when I saw the world-famous band’s Coldplay Live in Boston 2012 show.
Coldplay is British rock band that was formed in 1998 by the students of University College London. They became popular in 2000 after the great success of their single “Yellow”. There are four participants in the band: Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin describes the music style of the band as limestone rock opposing it to hard rock. The members are multi-instrumentalists, playing various musical instruments like keyboards, harmonica, bass and lead, drums. During its existence Coldplay received 8 Grammy awards and 19 Grammy nominations.
At the show Coldplay presented their fifth album ‘Mylo Xyloto’. It includes the band’s hits “Princess of China”, “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall” and “Paradise”. The entourage of the stage has much in common with the CD cover. It was painted with graffiti in bright colors. Their music is a vivid example that defines the rock music of 2000-s. The whole performance was dynamic, energetic and colorful. Each member of the band radiated happiness and energy. As far as the songs are concerned, there was a strong interchange of slower melodies and dynamic ones.
The show started with the title song that gave name to the whole album – “Mylo Xyloto”. Coldplay has a strong feeling of connection with their fans that is why they included not only their brand-new song from the album, but also their hits. The band knows what their audience loves so they played as their first hit “Yellow” as more recent songs like “Viva La Vida” and “Violet Hill”. Moreover, there was a great interaction of Coldplay leading singer Chris Martin with the fans. He greeted them, expressed his gratitude and even asked them to choose the song to be performed during the concert. He offered a choice from two songs “Warning Sign” and “Green Eyes” and the fans have chosen the second one. It is a great example of communication between the artist and the audience. Such interaction definitely facilitates the process of energy exchange and positive reaction.
The great thing about the live concert is the fact that the performers have a great opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of improvisation. Usually, Coldplay interpret their initial studio sound slightly differently but this fact only adds them bonuses as true professionals. Some songs of the show included piano play. First of all, the concert piano itself deserves special attention as it was painted with graffiti art and looked rather bizarre. Secondly, Chris Martin has demonstrated high professionalism in playing the instrument. Some songs started with the piano introduction, some songs were generally based on its play. Nevertheless, in every situation this instrument sounded rhythmically and musically.
Perfectly organized show do not left a chance for the audience to get bored. With every new song the band introduced new action. There were bright confetti, huge balloons and several stages used to entertain the audience. The whole performance was dynamic and vivid. The musicians and the audience were as one unit, they reached a perfect mutual understanding.
I would like to say that the whole concert made a rather positive impression on me. It was bright and dynamic; moreover it was well-organized with all its special effects. The musicians really exerted themselves and their fans were overloaded with happiness. At the same time, I believe that despite all the good sides of this concert there is one point that makes me look at its goodness from the other angle. While watching this show online it may seem a bit monotonous, even though it is performed quite dynamically. This effect is caused by the fact that the presence at the concert is always more impressive than watching a record of the concert. Loud music, thousands of fans singing the same song together, artists talking to you from the stage All these aspects make live concert a unique opportunity to enjoy the art of Coldplay, while online watching does not provide the viewer with such bright emotions.
In conclusion I would like to say that it is not a surprise that Coldplay’s music is beloved by millions of fans from all over the world. Being hidden behind beautiful melodies, their songs carry deep sense. Their music let the listeners think about different worlds, different people, about various emotions and feelings. Their music is different: it is dance music and melodic, it is impulsive and touching. Coldplay is a band where every member has his own place. Even though there is a frontman, the band sounds like one union; there is a perfect harmony in everything that they do. They make music like they feel it and they feel this music so that their fans can explore their world that is created in their songs.
