Ergonomic refers to a scientific area of study and application that is concerned with the ways of enhancing productivity, comfort, safety, health and comfort in the working environment. This is also concerned with promoting healthy and effective associations among the various workers in an organization, effective technology, and conducive environment. Within our organization, there are several areas that need changes and improvement in order to ensure a more conducive working environment. However, this paper focuses on the implementation of ergonomic workstations. With correct implementation, it is supposed to result to efficient employees, reduction of workers’ compensation claims and comfortable working environment.
Situation Analysis
Currently, the firm is using an open-plan office layout in which individuals are placed in one open office floor with various workstations. Most of the office facilities such as printers, Scanners, laminators, staplers, fun and heating systems are shared. This makes it uncomfortable for the various workers since the generalized conditions do not satisfy every individual's need. Although this approach has several advantages such as saving on cost and enhancing of the interactions. There are various dimensions that need to be improved. Given that the employee working in the organizations are many, the office is mostly crowded with no relaxation space. In addition, the nature of work is very demanding and hence, individuals usually take very long hours in their workstations sitting from morning to evening. This, therefore, leaves them no time to exercise, and this is very unhealthy, as they usually leave for their home late and arrive early in the morning.
Moreover, the nature of work is usually engaging such that the employees have limited break time and as well as free time to relax. This according to health specialists is not advisable as the human body need exercising and relaxation it also need time for relaxation in order to be continually productive. I therefore, suggest that these issues need to be adjusted, as it does not only affect me, but also other employees. There is increased competition in the corporate world whereby firms are constantly seeking to attract and recruit top talents. When the working environment become hectic, there are likely to be cases of workforce turnover with most individuals going to work for firms that have favorable environments in term of relaxing space and ample time for relaxations and personal development.
The audience
The main audience, in this case, is the top management. Upon consistent persuasion, the top management is expected to implement ergonomic workstations and periodic ergonomic valuations. This will greatly assist the organization. The other audience includes the various workers who have very stringent work conditions such that they are always behind desks in their various work stations from morning to evening with very little resting time. Through this paper, they are made aware of their situation; hence, seek the necessary solutions. The chief executive officer as well as the senior management. They are part of the workforce, and they are usually engaged such that they have very little time for relaxing since there is limited space for relaxing and resting during the short breaks. Other members of the organization also form part of the audience. This area of improvement is dynamic, and cuts across various organizations; hence, all the organizations should be able to adopt it.
Benefits of a Relaxation Space and Ergonomic Workstation
Relaxation space, in this case, refers to segregated places within the various organizations where the various worker can have a chance to unwind and relax hence letting go the pressure and stress associated with the working environment. It may also include fully equipped gyms in which employees can exercise and keep physically fit and healthy. There are various benefits that are associated with a relaxation space. First is having stress-free employees. When employees are stress-free, they are likely to work productively with no errors made in their jobs and hence reduced rework costs. In addition, they are likely to deliver quality work on time and in the case of errors, it can easily be corrected in time. A relaxation space usually provides the workers with an opportunity to unwind issues that affect their psychological health. Consequently, this will boost their morale. With a boosted morale, the workers are less likely to be resistant of slugging in doing their task. They will perform the work with a lot of enthusiasm and hence high productivity in terms of the number of units of the work completed. They will be even willing to work extra time without being forced by the organization. There is also likely to be reduced cases of absenteeism and absent employees usually cost an organization in the form of missed production and resultant lower revenue. The current workplace usually requires teamwork for the achievement of better results. Moreover, employees for various departments should be collaborative so that the overall performance of the organization can be maximized.
The boosted morale is likely to make the employees align themselves with the organization strategies. This would enhance achievement of goals. In turn, the employees will be highly compensated for their high performance. A worker in most cases experiences pressure from the working environment as well as from the families. When a relaxation space is created, they are able to relieve their stress and hence psychological health. The relaxation spaces will also help the employees be able to move around instead of feeling as if they are chained to their work stations. The mobility of workers in an organization leads to better thinking and hence creativity and innovativeness in the business. Generally, the employees will be happy with their workplace since some their issues will he been sorted out.
