The paper will be written in the format of a feature article. As a result, it will offer an outstanding platform to analyze the language and gender stereotypes topic. The article will be detailed through exclusive research on the topic, which will be carried out through two sources, which are deeply informed on the topic.
The article will be written in the perspective of the included sources in the influence of my imaginative thoughts over the topic. The target audience includes teachers, students, and editors. The article is intended to help the audience in reading as well as analyzing and participating in various discussions on language and gender stereotypes.
Gender sensitivity has been linked to social activities like advertisements. Therefore, the articles Coates and Pia (2011) and Johanson and Blake (2006) intend to show how the media handles different genders in relation to the languages that they choose. I will use the formal conventions of a feature article to bring out the relevant meaning to the topic. Therefore, the article must take the introduction, body, and conclusion format to bring out the most significant meaning to the topic.
The article must be catchy from the heading to the topic sentences. It must also take a formal format. Several facts must be used in making the article more interesting to the reader. Therefore, all the elements must be inclined towards achieving an attractive and reasonable feature article. The feature article is subjective in nature and the opinion of the author is the main requirement. Therefore, the author has the power to navigate the article towards an imaginative theme to define meaning and significance.
Gender stereotypes manipulate the use of language
Language is the most significant tool for communication and it defines meaning to any subject. Therefore, it is significant to value communication on the basis of the language used. Language has been influential to how different subjects on gender have been handled. Therefore, the language has to take different formats to suit the gender purpose at the moment. Language has to express the attitudes and feelings of the different genders and how they respond to issues. As such, the language is different for male and female.
Language may be classified as feminine and masculine. Being feminine means the language inclines towards a certain direction that is descriptive of the involvement of women. Therefore, the value is in the subject if it touches on women. In the case of feminism, the language must show a high level of politeness, which is usually portrayed by women (Coates and Pia 23). The levels of politeness dictate the direction towards the achievement of some value in women and making the written piece highly attractive to women.
The masculinity of the language may be shown by the existence of complexity in the language. Mena are known of using extremely complex language, which may be a representation of men. The complexity ranges from the use of difficult words as well as complex sentences. Therefore, meaning is attached to the combination of various structures, which are indicative of the masculinity that males portray in the development of their language (Johanson and Blake 19).
Men usually use serious tones, which may dictate the flow of their articles. The tone shows that men use language to portray their seriousness over a matter. Therefore, the language is likely to be extremely commanding as the man seeks to achieve authority in the article being written. As such, the articles written by men as the target have exclamations, which signify command or authority (Johanson and Blake 21).
In another context, females use language in a form of inquiry. They seek meaning to certain matters as they are known to be knowledge seekers. They do not have an outstanding platform through language to offer information. Instead, they focus on the value that comes with trying to obtain information from other parties. Therefore, in their language, women will always have statements in the form of inquiry as they seek for answers in various subjects (Coates and Pia 34). Therefore, women will always have hedges and tags to clarify on the matter that they are discussing since they are deeply concerned with the topics.
On the other hand, men are solution providers. The men’s confidence, which is usually portrayed through their willingness to answer any question, is evident through the language. Men use confidence to provide solutions to the problems, which they may have identified in the society. As a result, in their authorship men are informative. They provide information or details regarding a certain matter. They are usually directed towards authority, which makes them deliver to a subject in an informative ground (Johanson and Blake 51). Men often use exclamation makes to ensure they stamp authority to the message that they are delivering.
Speeches are the proper definition of the gender stereotypes in use of language. Males and females participate differently in speeches. The males are extremely authoritative while delivering their speeches. They portray a high level of confidence through handling the most challenging topics. For example, they may choose to study women and machines and give a speech on the topics. Such topics may be exceedingly tough to handle as they have to be extremely convincing to the audience. Men are usually abusive in their speeches, as they may confront each other on the face of the audience. They do not value emotions at all in their speeches. They express feelings through identification and presentation of facts (Johanson and Blake 54). Therefore, they are usually attractive to the audiences who are interested in facts.
Women are different when delivering speeches. They are usually careful on the topics that they chose and the language that they employ. For example, they do not focus on complex elements. They believe in simplicity, a move that pushes them to be polite in the analysis of the topic that they seek to pursue. For example, they do not stand abusive language. They value their position in the society and they are ready to defend it. Therefore, the language that they use must be attractive and interesting to the public. Women mind of their image in the society thus they chose a language that will maintain their respect. Also, their speeches are extremely emotional (Coates and Pia 65). They portray their feelings towards the topic that they are handling through choice for emotional language.
Language is an extremely useful element in the delivery of a certain message to the public. However, there are differences between articles based on the gender involved in the article. Males use authoritative language, which may be abusive at some point. The language is intimidating and free of emotions. On the other hand, females believe in soberness and politeness, which are critical elements in their language. The language by females is usually emotional but meaningful. Women prefer handling simple matters during speeches while men emphasize on complexity. Therefore, Gender stereotypes manipulate the use of language.
