On a steaming hot day, where the sun shone like an incandescent bulb in the sky, and the temperature was high enough to make us all sweat bullets, I stood outside the college premises with a table and cupcakes arranged on them. The small pieces of cake, giving off a succulent and appetizing chocolaty aroma were enough to attract people towards them like bees fascinated by a dainty red rose. It was my fourth day in a row that my friends and I had been at this tiny stall of ours, carrying out a small work of philanthropy. This table was set up to raise money for a friend who was diagnosed with a heart condition and he didn’t have the means to afford the treatment.
Apart from whatever little we could hail, it was time to ask the people for help. I was determined as any presidential candidate to help my friend and I worked day and night to arrange for the cash we needed. There were times during this process when people as mean as a miser and would call us fraudulent miscreants but I explained coolly why we were doing this and we even had videos of our friend as proof of his medical condition. This helped convince them and they would feel my concern as deeply as I did. Even if we had to sit through the days which felt like we were inside an oven or if the weather got wet enough to soak our skins, we would stay there so people would know our cause was actually real. As per my initial goal, I was able to collect enough money at the end of a month that could help my friend carry on the operation. All the heat and cold, the accusations and blood boiling remarks eventually paid off when my friend was safe and sound after his treatment.
