Police have to deal with threats in the community. The threats can stem from violence, riots, and environmental factors. The threat of terrorism has been a huge problem for over a decade and is increasing more over time. The Patriot Act gave the government and police more power when it came to terrorism and protection against crime. The budgets and finances for the criminal justice departments have fallen short due to the economic hardship that had happened in the country. Resources can be limited depending on the financial availability the criminal justice department can use. The economic standpoint has caused a threat which had made it less concerned when hiring for different positions. The system has realized the threat of the economy has given less concern when hiring for different positions.
The locations have an impact on the types of resources the criminal justice have. Geographical areas that are smaller have fewer resources and ability than larger areas. This can impact the planning of change along with the climate. There are different environmental areas that determine and shape how the police are mandated. The effects can be higher or lower depending on all the factors that make up the needs of the criminal justice system. “The smaller communities have a better chance for community policing than larger communities” . The police will know more people in the smaller geographical locations than those in the larger ones. This will help the smaller communities have a greater impact for communities to work closely with law enforcement.
Climate change can cause a threat to police due to the natural disasters that occur. Certain locations affect more than other areas. This can cause a strain on the already limited budget, which would impact the employment of the justice system and police force. The climate change has many causes that can put a damper on the police in order to maintain the communities. Changes affect every aspect of the police and criminal justice organizations.
