Psychological- the primary psychological health concern is stress.
Biological-Molds, HIV, tuberculosis, hepatitis
Chemical-chlorine, asbestos, and solvents
Physical- vibration, heat, noise, cold
Strain injuries- these include muscle injuries as well as back injuries (OSHA., n.d.).
Question Two
Some of the ways that workplace stress can be reduced include the following;
Encouraging employees to track their stressors. This will help the workers identify the patterns among the stressor and how they reacted. These patterns can be used to avoid future stress situations or develop healthy responses.
In cases of chronic stress then the workers need to take time away from the workplace to recharge. This will see them return to their pre-stress levels of functioning.
Use relaxation techniques- relaxation techniques such as deep breathing and meditation can help the employee melt the stress away. Mediation activities also help develop a purposeful focus on a single activity (APA, n.d).
Talk to the supervisor and get some support- Supervisors need healthy employee since they are more productive. This incentive means that the employer will likely take actions to promote employee wellbeing. Having open conversations will work towards managing the stressors so one can perform best.
Question Three
While physical health remains a paramount concern, there has been a growing focus on the psychological and social issues at the workplace. There will be a shift in focus from the physical safety and preventing negative impact to interventions geared towards enhancing the wellbeing of the individuals at the workplace (ACAS, 2012). More and more wellness programs will be developed by companies, and the employees will be rewarded based on their participation in the programs.
