Question 1
The nature of communication between the coaches and also the media is very significant. The communication would help me as the director deal easily with the issues which currently exist in the university especially in the sports department. I will make sure I consult each coach of every sports in respective in order to get information regarding the sports that should be eliminated. It is obvious that a few sports should be eliminated from the university since there is the deficit in the budget.
The media always wants to be the first to have updates and publish them but I will not let them do that. I will take it upon myself to ask them to give me enough time so that I can prepare the report and submit it to the editor immediately. This will allow me have enough time to analyze the situation and come up with a plan that will be fair to everybody in the staff for example, the department of directors, coaches and others.
Question 2
As the sports director, Rebecca needs to have financial information and the managerial information. The financial information will help her understand the current budget of the sports department. However, the managerial information will help her understand the performance trend of the teams and also training grounds. For example, the pool was in a very bad condition despite the popularity of the sports. Since the swimming pool is in the bad condition and calls for immediate and serious repair, the sport may be eliminated so that to cut down the $ 2.5 million (Jensen & Overman, 2003).
Question 3
I will involve the coaches and other sports directors in the decision making. It is very important to include coaches only because they understand the nature of the sports they are dealing with more than I do. They are the ones who are very close to both players and the fans more than I do. Moreover, another group that will be involved in the decision making is the sports directors. This is because we are almost doing the same job and I therefore believe that, their contribution will be of significant in the decision making (Jensen & Overman, 2003).
Question 4
The type of communication that should take place is the one involving media. I will submit the final report to the media so that it can be published. The use of the media will make things easier only because the information can be reliable and authentic. I will also submit the final reports to the sports directors and make sure that every coach has a copy.
Question 5
The possible solutions for the budget reduction are to eliminate some sports in the University. It is very clear that some of sports are not making any profit and they are not very popular in the country. The sport such as volleyball is in high risks to be eliminated. However, even the successful sports can also be in danger for example swimming sport (Tollison, 2008). The swimming pool needs some serious repairing which may cost my department a lot of cash. Due to this incidence, I should closely consider this sport before carrying out any decision.
Question 6
The criteria that I am going to use are obvious and very clear. I will only consider three criteria in the process, firstly, the popularity of the sport, repairing costs and the profiles of the coaches. Most of the sports have lost popularity and therefore the number of fans has vastly reduced, such sports must be eliminated. The repairing costs may also lead to the deficit of the budget; therefore any sport which needs serious repairing will be eliminated. The profession of the coaches is very significant. This is only because teams must perform and attract the sponsors, but if they fail to do so such sports will be eliminated (Tollison, 2008).
