Leadership develops the powers in the employees that have the direct impact in order to develop motivation and the motivated employees used their full efforts for the success of the company(Summerfield, 2014).
Leadership and management
There is a minor difference between the leadership and the management however both are the most important for the success of the company. The managers are the individuals in the organizations that do the things right and provide the direction to the employees to do the things right whereas the leaders in the organizations are the individuals that always do the right things and provide training to the employees in order to enhance their knowledge. All the leaders in the organization used the management skills in order to provide the right direction of success to the employees. The management of the company sets the vision and mission so that the leadership develops the skills in the employees in order to fulfill the vision and mission of that company. The management of the company provides a deep focus on the structure and system whereas the main focus of the leadership is on the employees of the company. The management is directly concerned with the performance of the company and the management used different techniques in order to improve the system and structure of the company. The leadership provides motivation to the employees of the company because when the employees are motivated so that they will use their full efforts and skills for the success of the company (Boylan, 2016).
Leadership and teamwork
Leadership and the teamwork are essential in order to provide the success and enhancing the skills of the employees. The main quality of the effective leader is that the leader provides the direction of success to the employees. The leader must know the thinking pattern of employees in order to evaluate their perception and turn it in the success of the company. Teamwork is the most important factor in different organizations because the single individual has only limited thinking whereas the team of employees has the broad thinking and they can easily contribute their thinking in order for the growth. The team members used their skills and capabilities that helps the company in its success. In order to develop the effective team, the role of leadership cannot be ignored. Leaders provide the enthusiasm in the employees and develop the motivation in the team so that the team of employees becomes capable of performing the functions of the company successfully (Bush, 2012).
Leadership Theories
“Great Man” theory: Leaders are born, not made
According to this theory, the famous leaders are different from the normal human beings. Julius Caesar, Queen Elizabeth, Napoleon and Alexander the Great, were the great leaders that provide the motivation to the individuals. The great leaders of the organizations help the employees to clear their thinking and set the vision of the employees with the vision of the company so that the employees use their full efforts for the success of the company. The effective leaders are born with the personal qualities and they are different from the other individuals. The concept that the great leaders are born and not made is very common. Research indicates that there is a big difference in the thinking of the normal individuals and the leaders because the leaders have high motivational level and they develop the motivation in the employees. All the organizations follow the assumption that the great leaders are born and they are not made because the great leaders have some special qualities that are given to him from the birth. In the history, the individuals assume that the great qualities are only the gift of men and not the women that is why the name of this theory is the “Great Man”. After this theory, several leaders realize that the quality of the leadership is not limited to the men and the women can also make the great leaders. Women have the same thinking similar to men and they can also help the company for its success (Piaw& Ting, 2014).
In the 19th century, the great and famous leader Thomas Carlyle has presented the concept of the great man. He stated that the history of the whole world not only includes the failures of the individuals but it also includes the biography of the great man. In every leader, the unique qualities are the God gifted but also the individual can become the great leader by developing skills and can easily expand the knowledge. The quality of great leaders is fully dependent upon the learning pattern of the individuals. If the person has the interest of learning so that he can become the great leader. After evaluating the skills of the women, the leaders realize that the women can also become the great leaders and then this theory was named as the “Great Person Theory”(Marques, 2010).
The individuals that are the great leaders born with some intelligence and they have a great personality. The leadership is not limited to the men and also the women can become the good leaders(Marques, 2010).
“Great Opportunity” theory: Leadership can be learned as a skill
The basic need of the team members is that they require the leader because the leader is the person that creates motivation in the employees of the company. According to the underlying theory, every individual can become the great leader by adopting the different skills and capabilities. If the person has the enthusiasm of learning so that person can easily learn the skills to become the great leader. The leaders create motivation of success in the employees and with the help of the learning; the individuals can easily develop the qualities of leadership(Trim, 2016). This theory indicates that every person can become the great leader if he has the passion for learning. The leadership creates ability in the individuals that they can easily achieve the goals of the organization. The qualities of leadership are fully dependent upon the struggle of the individuals. A person can make the good leader if he has the passion of learning (Trim, 2016).
The underlying theory indicates that the leader must adopt the different qualities in order to become successful in the business. Also, if employees develop the qualities of the great leader so that the employee can easily make the great leader because the qualities of the leadership can easily learnas the skills. The leader evaluates that which qualities are essential to be developed in the employees in order to make them capable to successfully overcome the difficulties of the company. If the person has the passion of learning, so that person can easily get the skills of leadership because leadership is the learning process and the individuals can easily get the skills of the leadership. The company can produce the better leaders by providing the training to the employees and after the training, the employees will be able to provide the best team performance (Brungardt, 2011).
MBTI theory
MBTI stands for “Myers–Briggs Type Indicator”. This theory is directly related to the psychology of the individuals that how the individuals think about the world. This theory indicates that the individuals must have the positive thinking of learning in order to become the successful leader. With the help of the skills and capabilities, every person can develop the qualities of the great leader. The decisions of the individuals are directly related to the perception because when the individuals perceive the world, they will provide the decisions in the same way. The MBTI theory was presented by Carl Jung. There are several psychological functions exhibit the individuals in this world which include intuition, thinking, sensation and feeling. The thinking and feeling of the individuals has the direct relationship with each other because what the individual think the same level he feels (Yang & Kim, 2013).
All the successful leaders must have one of the following psychological functions. The underlying theory also illustrates the different deficiencies in the individuals which include the poor reliability i.e. the person will show the different results in the different occasions; the poor validity i.e. the individual does not measure the different situations. This theory is based on the personal assessment of the individuals. The MBTI theory helps to exhibit the leadership qualities of the individuals because the qualities of the leadership are God gifted and not made so that the MBTI theory identify all the characteristics of the individuals that have the qualities of the leadership (Yang & Kim, 2013).
Application of the theories in the management
Both theories of leadership have the direct impact on the management of every company. The leaders provide help to the employees in developing skills and capabilities. The management of every company is responsible for the acts of the employees and identifies the performance of the employees of the company. When the employees of the company get motivated then this trend shows proper management of the company (Johnston, 2016).
Research indicates that there are similar qualities between the management and leadership and the difference between the great man and great opportunity theory of leadership and the management of the company is very small. The leaders have the inborn qualities and they can easily control their inner leadership qualities whereas the manager learned the qualities from the experience. If the managers have more skills and capabilities so this allows the manager in taking the best decisions for the company. The leaders have the inborn qualities of the risk taking and the manager learns that how he can tackle the risk-taking situations in the company (Johnston, 2016).
The other theory of leadership indicates that the leaders can get the skills from the education and learn similar to the managers. Leadership provides the essential skills in the employees so that the employees perform well in the company and can make the crucial decisions for the benefit of the company. These decisions of the employees help the management of the company to provide the better decisions related to the company (Vennebo, 2016).
The leadership theory also indicates that the managements of every company must provide rewards to the employees in order for the best performance. The rewards provide help to motivate the employees and then the employees will perform better. The management of the company provides the reward to the employees when the tasks of the company will perform according to the directions. Also, the management provides the punishment to the employees when the employee does not fulfill the tasks according to the requirements of the company. In sum, the leadership theories develop the motivation in the employees in order to effectively perform the tasks so that the employees will perform the tasks of the company set by the management. The presence of the leader in the company will help to resolve the issues faced by the company (Vennebo, 2016).
