Part One
The social reform perspective is effective for adult learners as it involved the transformational learning as well as a critical reflection (Nesbit, 2005). I prefer the social reform perspective because it depends on experiences that help transform the beliefs of an individual from old ways of understanding to new perspectives. As an adult, there are various new habits and beliefs that I have learnt as a result of undergoing adult learning through the perspective. However, the nurturing perspective should be used initially then a follow up by the social reform perspective. The purpose of adult education mainly focuses on providing learning experiences that help them achieve a certain goal. Therefore, the transformational phases differ depending on the individual objectives or achievements. The perspectives also help in critical thinking and reflection that supports the transformational learning process. Is it possible for the social reform perspective to be used in other teaching levels as well as in rehabilitation institutions? The perspective aims at helping learners acquire personal growth and development through transformation. Therefore it would be effective in reforming people in various rehabilitation centers. As compared to other teaching perspectives, the social reform perspective is the most challenging. Why? According to my opinion, the social reform perspective is similar to individuals who fight for justice and freedom no matter what it takes. Therefore, many learners and educators tend to fear the struggle of fighting against the powerful people in the quest for justice.
Part Two
The Social Reform Perspective requires the passion and strong will to fight for justice and freedom. As an experienced adult learner, I have discovered that most of the teachers who use the social reform perspective encounter various challenges of the society making them less motivated. However, the perspective intends to educate the oppressed learners on how to seek justice and freedom through various understandings such as through speech, art, drama, writings and dances. In my opinion, the perspective requires the bold involvement in the quest for justice or freedom like Martin Luther King among others.
