In the last couple of years, the role of the United States and another democratic government has expanded dramatically. Currently, the government used new and vast roles that lacked in the previous years in an effort to produce a productive men and women of the society. In the past, leaders used totally different methods of leadership compared to the modern leadership styles. New and improved methods of leadership are introduced as the world enters the diverse situation. The society requires a lot from the government, which they must fulfill in order to gain trust from the society. People living in the past advocated for freedom. Forefathers introduced many ideas that the ensured freedom prevailed among all in the society irrespective of gender, race, age, religion, ethnicity, or culture. The declaration of independence forms the promise made by the government of U.S. to serve its people, while the constitution acted as a fulfillment of the government’s commitment to serve citizens (US Citizenship and Immigration Services 1). The government of U.S. follows these recommendations to date, and the changes bring about better things than expected. According to Way, the major roles of the government in the modern society are promoting diplomacy, defending the society, maintaining law and order, administering justice, promoting economic growth, and promoting democracy.

The intended role of United States of America government
Ancient leaders in United States wrote many books and articles regarding what they expected from the government then. The government uses the ideas of our forefathers to rule and lead people of the society. The federal government of United States is led by a constitution promulgated in 1789 under the rule of George Washington. By federal, it means the government was formed by a constitution among thirteen states. The U.S. constitution provided a guideline of how the government should conduct its operations. Additionally, the constitution provides different directions that the government should practice in order to maintain rule and order in the society. In 1848, the new US constitution was declared and the government had to abide by the constitution in order to deliver to the society. The constitution brought about the revolution experienced today (Wills 324).
Moreover, ancient leaders introduced a model of governance that the present government should use in leading the society. The government should promote democracy in all means possible because our forefathers fought hard to acquire the democracy. Maintaining a democracy is a complex task, but any government that fails to provide people with democracy has no business being in power. The dictatorship form of governance practiced in the past led to poor development and lack of innovations from the public because only a few respected leaders could control the society. Presently, democracy has prevailed, and the government’s role is ensuring people leave in a democratic society as provided by the constitution. Additionally, the government was given a mandate to create laws that favor every individual in the society without any discrimination. U.S. laws are made at different levels starting from local, council and state legislatures. The government has a duty of ensuring a stable democracy is maintained in the local, state and federal levels (Wills 234).
The government has a role to play in ensuring security and stability of the environment in order to promote free trade, development, production, and innovation. The forefathers fought for democracy and freedom in order to deliver the society from bondage and ensure people’s safety. The government today holds the responsibility of securing the U.S. borders and protecting the society against internal threats that interfere with growth and development of the country. Additionally, the government should take the responsibility of defending its people from any form of harassment from police, politicians, or any other powerful body within the society. The modern society needs the redistribution of wealth in order to become stable. Lack of security and high cases of corruption cannot enable the government meets the demands of the modern society. The nature of spending demonstrated by the modern society differs from the traditional methods calling upon the government to ensure availability of resources through securing the country borders (US Citizenship and Immigration Services 2).
The society expects the government to provide a better platform for development, growth, and advancement through making available basic needs. Traditional governments did not cater much about the social status of individuals because it was led through dictatorship and promoted equality as opposed to freedom. After the declaration of independence, education and health form the basic needs of every citizen. Historians like Jefferson advocated for universal education. They introduced policies that supported education in writing, reading, and arithmetic (Willis 147). Today’s government should also ensure the society get access to other basic needs like food and shelter. Presence of quality infrastructures like housing and roads makes it easier for a society to access these basic needs whenever need arises.
The modern government should seek to protect and foster development in order to achieve the overall economic prosperity. The process occurs through division of labor and producing specialties in different sectors of production (Willis 115). All these incentives help in increasing capital formation that promotes industrial production and higher levels of commercial activities within the society. Every society needs a stable and developed nation. Promotion of economic growth and development plays a role in increasing military and industrial strength of the society, ensuring unity and stability of the society, and encouraging political support from all forms of governance. The above role of the government was initiated in the early 1500s whereby the central government held the duty of merging emerging political societies to maintain peace and unity among members of the society.
On the other hand, the government has a role to play in ensuring the society receives all the necessary support in terms of finances, health, power, and recreation. It is the responsibility of the federal government to provide citizens with the needed support in terms of recreation and infrastructure in order to promote trade. For example, the government offers assistance to disadvantaged communities by providing them with needed healthcare services, education, and finances (Willis 112). The U.S. constitution provides for the federal government to offer itself to the public by making available all resources that promote growth and development. Availability of incentives such as donor funds and loans play a significant role in ensuring the society gets access to resources needed to start businesses and for investment purposes. Additionally, the government should assure the society of their security and the security of their properties. The government does so by promoting certain programs such as Social security, Medicaid, and Medicare. The above programs are some of the government projects that ensure the public of their security on investments and health.
The modern society differs from the traditional forms of governance in terms of revenue distribution and the role of financial institutions. In the past, the government used to provide assistance to the public in terms of free loans. Section seven of the US constitution gives the government the mandate to ensure all bills aimed at raising revenue originate from the House of Representatives. The senate has the power to oppose or accept any revenue collection bill (US Citizenship and Immigration Services 13). High rates of unemployment are recorded each year, and the trend seems endless. The government has a role to play in regulating financial institutions in order to ensure citizens acquiring loans for development get the desired interest rates. Lack of employment opportunities forces many people, especially the youth to engage in organized crimes, hence causing greater harm to the society. The government should ensure such individuals get access to low-interest loans in order to invest on various businesses and leave the life of crime. The government should create governance networks that ensure every person gets access to the source of income.
Order in the society ensures people stay a peaceful and unifying lifestyle. The government has the role of controlling the people in the society through proper governance and administration of law and order as provided in the constitution. Our forefathers brought together people from different parts of the country and united them as one country. Before the present constitution was promulgated, people of different cultures used to share wealth and power without any interference of peace. The modern government is expected to maintain the same cooperation by ensuring internal peace and domestic order. Every citizen of the United States has the right to life, and to possess property. In order to ensure people of their rights, the government introduced the patent law that ensured each individual’s property was registered under a unique character (Wills 234-235). Domestic tranquility protects people from physical violence and safeguard property. In general, the government’s role in the society is providing conditions that enable people to travel safely within the societal territorial borders, conduct business peacefully, and conduct their private and personal affairs.
Does U.S. continue with its role to the society to date?
The U.S. government’s effort to maintain its role towards the modern society as provided by the constitution continues to date. The present government aims at maintaining democracy, peace, and order. In May 2010, the United States of America President Obama developed a strategy promote security in the country. Maintaining security forms one of the major roles of the government to the society. In his introductory speech, Obama claimed that the country still faces broad and complex challenges to the national security. The president urged U.S. citizens to join hands in fighting insecurity in the 21st century the same way they did in the 20th century. The above statement shows that the government has not achieved its security goals, and the society is not at a better position to prosper in the presence of security threats. However, the present government has played a major role in promoting internal security because few cases of terrorism and civil war are reported today. On the other hand, the government employs the modern technology to ensure thorough surveillance of its borders and air traffic to prevent a repeat of September 11 tragedy.
Additionally, the government has maintained its role towards the society by ensuring good healthy living. In the new era for public health, the government gives more priorities and dedicates more resources towards the health care sector. The goal of the government is to provide public health services with excellent results using current innovations in order to improve the well-being of the American society. Public health forms one of the most significant sectors of the government requiring total change. Presently, mortality and morbidity have reduced as more people get access to quality health care. Moreover, the government has embarked on training more nurses and medical providers to increase patient-doctor ratio. On the other hand, the health of child and mother is more protected than before with the emergence of the current technologies such as ultrasound and cesarean section (CS). The government plays a major role today in ensuring all health care facilities use the modern technologies in delivering health services in order to save more lives, and serve the community accordingly.
Benefits to the society
The constitution requires the government to make resources available to the citizens through various government incentives and programs. The government continues to practice this model as it was written by the co-founders of the nation. Currently, people get access to government incentives like youth funds, donor programs, insurance covers, and bank loans that promote development and growth of the economy. The U.S. president introduced the health insurance system called “The Patient Protection and Affordable Act (PPACA)” named the Obama Care, which reduced the cost of health for the vulnerable populations in America. The program plays an essential role to the society today because people can afford health care services, hence promoting a healthy lifestyle. On the other hand, people can easily access bank loans at affordable interest rates. The initiative makes more people invest in developmental projects and pay their loans without many challenges as it was in past regimes.
Changes enacted by the government towards improving living standards of people contribute to the benefits of the society and the health of the government. Technology helps in promoting changes in governance that ensure people live a democratic and secure life. The state and the local government have introduced many opportunities towards the society today, and people should not complain about the failure of the government. The government has fulfilled and continues to improve the living standards of its citizens despite a few challenges that affect government delivery to the society. Additionally, the U.S. community today enjoys the best form of democracy compared to any other country in the world. The democracy gives people freedom to raise their concerns to the government at any time without intimidation. People have benefited from the modern form of government that puts the sovereignty of the people of America first.
Impacts of increased government contribution to the society
On the other hand, changes from the traditional form of governance to the present constitutional led method benefits many citizens, especially the minority. The minority groups in U.S. enjoy their freedom because the constitution allows the government to take care of them and provide them with all the necessary support. Racism, which acted as the order of the day in the ancient period, is totally condemned in the modern society. The government’s role in eliminating racism helps the society prosper and contributes to the health of the economy. Additionally, the President changed the government’s relationship to big business. The government regulates bug businesses and offer the society chances to invest in big businesses. The above aspect gives the U.S. government global responsibility to offer opportunities to the citizens in accordance to the country’s national interest.
The increased government concern contributes to the freedom of its citizens and the health of the nation economy. The modern American society has the freedom to join any political party and express their views to the government. Political parties form a representation of people with alternative approaches towards governance and democracy. With the current form of governance guided by the present constitution, people have the freedom of electing leaders of their choice, and impeaching them whenever they fail to perform. The government is more concerned about the welfare of its people by ensuring the rights of every individual are observed and respected. Finally, the media play an important role in connecting the government and people. The freedom of speech and movement gives people the opportunity to express their concerns about different activities in the society that requires government intervention. The media help the government in its role to serving the society.
Conclusion
In conclusion, declaration of independence and development of US citizen gave the government new roles towards the society. The major roles of the government to the society are promoting democracy, promoting diplomacy, maintaining law and order, defending the society, administering justice, and promoting economic growth. Since the introduction of the new constitution, the United Stated of America has experienced a tremendous growth. On the other hand, the democracy practiced by the current U.S. government provides the society with better chances of increasing their productivity and ensuring growth of a healthy economy. The role of the government provides citizens with opportunities to shape their future and encourages peace, unity, and love.
