Integration is the answer
The education system is dependent on various stakeholders that play a role in the education sector. However, the administration and the teachers have the most crucial role to play in educating the minds. Students go to school to seek knowledge. As the level of education increases, students advance further in specializing in their desired or preferred career in life. In the tertiary levels of education, the student will have the liberty of focusing on the selected subjects. It is at this point that they will become professionals in their various fields. The teachers also play a role in the education sector by ensuring that they are always current with the latest teaching methods in their area of teaching and the subject they are teaching.
The metaphor used by Rose in this article is directed to the administration and the teachers. Teachers have the obligation of transferring knowledge to the students based on the subject or topic they are teaching. Teachers have embraced the responsibility of grading and testing their students. The human mind is keen to the grade they get. For example, Rose explains that his results were mixed up with those belonging to another student named Rose as well. Such a mistake can have dire consequences, as was the case with Rose. According to the new results, Rose had failed and was placed in a group called the vocational track. He spent two years in this group since the mistake went undetected for that long. The social status also plays a crucial role in ensuring that the students acquire adequate educational services. Aside from adequate finances, a good social sell-being is crucial in improving the education of the students (Robot, 2). The race of an individual has an impact on their interaction processes within the school setting. There is the perception that white race people are brighter than the black race people. This reason could have played in the reason as to why Rose’s results were mixed up and nobody noticed it. Such an incident could be viewed as normal if the black race was affected (American Dream, 1)
Interpretation
The metaphor was used by Rose to explain the significant importance of the role teacher’s play in educating their students. While these programs are meant to help students improve their grades, there is a need to exercise a level of seriousness when conducting these programs. Rose explains that the students will float to the level set by the teachers (Rose, 2). This means that the students will only gain as much knowledge as the teachers are willing or can out. Students cannot learn by themselves. Rather, they need some guidance when engaging in learning activities. Some children are placed in a lower class by their parents because of their financial background. Some parents cannot afford to pay for the expensive schools that are available (Shame of the Nation, 4). For this reason, the students are placed in this learning level. In addition, there is a school to prison pipeline where the some students are expelled from school and find their way to prison (Concept. Education Under Arrest, 6). This is a fault of the parents who have not trained their children on discipline behavior as they grow up. The statement by Rose is based on the level at which their administrators and teachers place them. However, scholars argue that lack of access to learning instruments hinders students from achieving high performance levels. The success of a student is not linked to the availability of these recourses (Fang & Tang, 5). Teachers, administrators and parents have the potential of enriching the educational lives of the students.
