Introduction
I am a highly skilled, versatile, and motivated and professionally qualified healthcare social consultant with three years experience in health and social care consultancy industry. I have wide range of expertise in handing healthcare assistant esquires as well as planning itineraries, and arranging carrier for old people from home to home. My personal professional skills are planning, and managing while these skills help me to perform my job responsibilities efficiently that are facilitating retrieval of financial inquiries and arranging transport, coordinating with IT responding to health and social care inquiries regarding schedules (Adair, 2003). My interpersonal skills include good written as well as oral communication. My professional objective is to play an effective and strong role in the organization by having improved attitude and adaptability to change. Moreover, I am committed to give quality performance with capability to learn new skills relevant to my field. Furthermore, in order to give quality performance I need to improve my existing skills and other skills that required for progressing in professional life. I always prefer health and safety form for tracking the progress of an individual. I also prefer Initial Mentor meeting for strong communication with my co-workers. Midway Mentor meeting is also one of the best tools to track the changes in overall plan.
Existing Strengths and Ability Identified
According to Armstrong and Baron (2005), initial personal development plan is created for identifying and assessing basic development needs, therefore, Bacal (1999) has identified identification of abilities and existing strengths as milestone for the initial development plan. Strengths and weakness enable a person to identify his concerned areas, the strong skill analysis guide the person to recognize the correct and actual domain for him (Michaelm 2000). One should be really actual and aware that what should be best for him at different stages of life and its career. Development plan helps in identifying and recognizing one’s own strength and skills (Grit, 2009).
The table of initial personal development plan includes my existing strengths and ability. The table contains ability and personal remarks and area of development with proposed actions. In addition, to make the assessment comprehensive personal SWOT analysis is also included.
Development Theory development theory is the collective version of theories that how about the desirable change can bring into place. development theory emphasizes on the set of skills that an employer must have (Gallen, 2000). the development theory states that the leader must have ability to bring the work back in position. the theory has a great impact on my learing, the theory helped in understanding the values and rights of an employer. the elements of this report helped me understanding the relationship between task activities and team co-workers.
Personal SWOT Analysis
According to Boer, personal SWOT analysis is effective in terms of analyzing personal strengths and weaknesses related to personal skills, while opportunities and threats help to know the external situation for those skills (Simon 2011). This part of the paper elaborates personal internal strengths, weaknesses, and external opportunities and threats.
Strengths
The personal strength usually includes positive personal attributes and is controllable in terms of their effects on the environment or surroundings (Robbins and Coulter, 1996). Moreover, these personal positive attributes can be capitalized (Thomas, 2007). My personal strengths are my working experience as a health and social consultant and the responsibilities that I perform which provides me with opportunity to improve my skills in the same domain .
Weaknesses
As far as my personal weakness related to my professional objectives are concerned they can be extracted from my own strengths such as lack of vast experience. However, having experience in the respective field is apparently strength but the experience required for achieving professional target needs more experience as existing experience is not sufficient. Weak public speaking skills are also evaluated which is found to be missing and is big weakness in achieving the professional objectives. Moreover, the lack of attention or lack of attention skills is found and as a result often distracted and unable to focus on important matters. This weakness further affects the effective decision-making and planning skills and influences the work organization process.
Opportunities
Opportunities available as positive external condition for improving weaknesses help to improve professional skills. In order to improve my personal and professional weaknesses there is opportunity to work and gain more experience (Armstrong, 2000). For weak public speaking, there is opportunity to improve, as there are many opportunities of speaking in public such as meetings, presentation and so on. With number of opportunities to participate in such small level meetings can be helpful in terms of increasing my confidence level (Cardy, 2003). Moreover, oral communication skills can also be improved by doing regular practice in the same environment. In order to perform and achieve day-to-day tasks, it is important to be able to maintain attention long enough to learn the subject matter. In order to improve memory, there are techniques of practice such as relaxation and mediation (Podder 2004); other than that, attention problem can be resolved using the following techniques such as by maintaining or creating specific schedule, setting up blocks of time for each task that needs to be done. Moreover, timer or stopwatch can do a lot for maintaining memory and reminding for an appointment (Pausch 2008) and making notes during meetings can engage the mind regularly and will capture the interest and attention into the matter.
Threats
Threats are the negative external conditions that are controllable and its effect can be lessened under certain circumstances (Robbins and Coulter, 1996). The assessed threats for the objectives include lack of opportunities to prove existing skills. Analytically, such environment where there is little opportunity to polish or enhance the skills can be severely detrimental for achieving developmental skills. Action Plan Employability
Reflection
Areas That I Should Develop
I do not have enough skills in the following areas and I need to get advice on how to improve my skills in these areas:
- Planning Skills (Scheduling and Managing Upcoming Issues)
- Work Organization
- Effective Decision Making
- Target Setting (Lack of Effective Communication of Organizational objectives)
- Written Communication (Lack of awareness about latest and updated format of letter, report and memos)
Reflection
As identified in the previous section of the paper, the main objective of the paper was to assess the personal skills, develop learning for personal skills and perform the assessment and evaluation of skills learnt, this project helped to understand different elements of personality such as I identified the personal attributes related to career skills as strengths and weaknesses.
Moreover, by this project, I learnt different tools to assess the skills such as initial PDP helped to draw out first and the most significant area of development (Rughani, 2001). The understanding that I developed regarding the project and learning that did throughout the project can be stated successful based on the ability to assess and evaluate the area of development required. However, the assessment and evaluation made for the personal development needs to be evaluated for its authenticity, there is certain evidence for the success of the project including enhanced ability to identify the personal skills, development needs, and suggest the activity for the development needs. This project also helped to realize the effectiveness of self-assessment needs and its implications (Hall, 2003). Since self-assessment was important for the project as part of the work, the ultimate learning is based on the self-assessment skills. The ability of self-assessment helped to identify the strengths and weakness of personal skills, opportunity, and threats for personal development needs (Fairley and Stout 2010).
The overall reflection of the project is based on the personal learning that occurred during the management development activities including personal qualities that contributed to finish the project. It also reflects the challenges faced during the project and objectives achieved throughout the project. In this regard, the significant challenges faced were dealing with the assessment tools and evaluating myself using those tools, as at first, I was not ready to accept having any lacking or weaknesses in my personality. Additional significant challenges were faced in terms of achieving PDP objectives related to gathering the information about required action and resources for the accomplishment of action. In this way, the objective about making effective decisions was the most difficult of all, as it is obvious that for effective decision-making skills, there is need of long period while I had only three months for this objective. Another challenge that I encountered was improving my written communication skills and it is because I depended on the resource available on internet. Internet is an effective source for learning; however, I found internet resources difficult and vague for improving my written communication skills. As, there are a lot of information available on internet without consideration of quality and effectiveness, which made it difficult for me to understand which standard to follow for improving my written communication skills.
The success milestone was experienced during working on the objectives such as Planning Skills, Work Organization and Target Setting. The successful accomplishment of these objectives was due to effective information gathered from books and internet sources, which helped in understanding the related issues and systematic process for planning schedules such as maintaining diary or log. Furthermore, successful accomplishment of planning skills assisted in learning how to organize work at workplace, as there is close and strong relationship between planning and organization of work. The PDP objective that is Target Setting was also achieved successfully with the help of colleague who supported me and helped me in understanding the goal and objectives of the organization through SMART objective tool.
Conclusion
The best possible learning through this project is the awareness with the strengths and weaknesses regarding personal attributes, but other qualities are also important that assisted in carrying out the project. These qualities may be justified as determination and consistency that helped for the accomplishment of the project.
