The United States are often called a country of immigration, and indeed it is so. On the one hand, the rapid extension of the territory of the United States, colonization and the high level of development have created a permanent need for more and more human contingent. On the other hand, the socio-economic situation, in particular, agrarian overpopulation, national and religious oppression, famine outbreaks, political persecution in other parts of the world created the conditions to meet such needs and redistribute the labor force around the world with the help of migration. The growth of intercontinental migrations overseas contributed to the abolition of feudal restrictions making people legally free. It also contributed to the progress in the field of maritime traffic, and then air transport.
In fact, migration processes have positive and negative consequences to the host country, but the immigrants may face their own problems in the new society. Although, the United States claim to be the land of opportunities where the rights of all people are respected, many immigrants find life in the States difficult as they become the victims of racism and social discrimination. First of all, it necessary to mention that when moving to another country, most immigrants, especially those who are only interested in work abroad, face language barrier in obtaining the necessary information, when looking for work, and in communicating with the locals (Nuñez). As a result, the immigrants cannot find a well-paid job, or give their children to a good school, and they are treated as cheap labor force.
Immigrants who have not finished local educational establishments find it difficult to apply for a good job. That is why, they need to work from morning till night in order to earn any money to survive in the alien society, In this case, immigrants work illegally and may face big problems when they are caught by the police (Oluoch). As a result, they cannot get the appropriate medical treatment or use any other social services as the illegal immigrants are not protected by the law and government.
Many immigrants are discriminated only because of their skin color and belonging to another culture. The problem of racism is the most alarming one for the American society. Numerous conflicts appear between African Americans and white Americans. Because of the skin color, many people face social disrespect, discrimination at the work place, at school, and in any other institution (Fulwood). Those people become the victims of the American superiority over the immigrants of other nations, and treat them as people of lower class and social status having no rights for social services and goods.
Nowadays Europe suffers from terrorist activity, and as a result, every immigrant is treated as a terrorist, no matter in what county he is living right now. Even in the United States, the police can catch an immigrant because he/she is suspected in being in touch with terroristic organizations (Nuñez).
Even students coming to the United States in order to get better education may be discriminated, as the immigrant students have less rights to work in a good company just because they are not native (Oluoch). As a result, they come back to their motherland, or become a part of a cheap labor force working in the United States to earn for a loaf of bread.
In conclusion, it is necessary to say that many innocent immigrants become immediately people of lower rank after moving to the United States and are deprived of using all social services and goods just because they belong to another nation and culture.
