I. Introduction
Divorce refers to the dissolution of marriage. It occurs when two married couples decide to sever their church or legal bonds. The husband and wife have allowed the court to have them separated. They cease to associate with each other as they have lawfully parted ways. In short, they formally terminated their marriage for one or more reasons. Since they are already disjoined, they can re-marry other individuals again. In such as case, divorce has it causes as well as effects on the part of the couples, children, family members, friends, relatives, and society, in general. Below, I have presented the various causes and the likely corresponding effects of divorce:
II. Causes and Effects of Divorce
First, the cause of divorce may be each other’s individual or personal differences. When they were still lovers, they did not mind or care about their personal defects and weaknesses (e.g., such as differences in preferences or taste). They simply want to be together and care for each other. However, when they are already living under the same roof or married, they realized that they cannot merge or mend their personal differences. For instance, the husband likes watching sports while her wife likes drama series. Consequently, their misunderstanding widen and have disputes even on petty issues. Their personal desires caused a large gap between them. Months or years later, they decided to divorce each other. The effect of divorce due to differences in personal taste is becoming bitter toward each other; unless of course, they realized how insignificant their problem was should they have known it at the start of their marriage life.
Second, the cause of divorce – though not necessarily in the order of presentation here – is due to health reasons. Initially, when they are just lovers, they do not know that one of them have severe snoring problem, halitosis, etc. He or she cannot sleep well. Even when they both decided to seek medical help, nothing happened. The husband or wife that snores very badly has lived with it while still a single person. Now that he or she is married, the problem just went off worse for their once peaceful relationship. Not only that, the husband or wife also has a halitosis. Even when he or she brushed her tooth and gargled, less than six hours later, the problem lingers. He or she cannot present his or her partner to other people such as coworkers, friends, etc. The effect of divorce due to this factor is hard to resolve unless better health treatments are resorted. Either one cannot entirely blame his or her partner, except if they changed diet.
Third, another cause of divorce is inadequate or poor communication. If both of them are working, they may be workaholic. They do not have time for each other. Worse, most of the time, they do not time for each other but they do have lots of time for other people (such as friends, colleagues, etc.). Even when they thought that their marriage is just working fine as ever before, they may not know it fully well. Thus, no wonder that, years later, they lost interest for each other. They realized afterwards that they are much happier with other people than with their partner. As a result, any of them becomes an infidel. When tempted to have coitus with someone else, they do not even care or bother that it would rend their relationship for bad. The effect of this divorce due to poor communication and subsequent infidelity is the lost of trust to other people. Even when any of them remarries, they develop neurosis (that is, as if their partner is unfaithful).
Fourth, third-party issues are also causes of some divorce. Other people, such as in-laws, step children, friends, coworkers, etc, become intimately involve with either of the couples. Worse, they give unhealthy advice that lead later to the divorce of the married partners. Sooner before the husband and wife realize that they become victims of people who are busybodies, it is already too late for them. He or she just wake up one day knowing that he or she already lost someone previously so dear to him or her. The effect of divorce because of the meddling of other people in the affairs of couples is disheartening. It is not always the case that couples entered marriage because they simply fell in love with each other. Many couples have invested so much passion, time, energy, etc. just to be together until death parts them.
Fifth cause of divorce is due to financial reasons. The husband lost his job and the wife started to nag him daily. They believe that they cannot live harmoniously if not for the things that they possess. The wife, for example, who regularly socializes with her friends and acquiantances cannot do so again. She blames her husband because they have scant finances and resources. Precisely, the wife only married her husband for money’s sake. She really does not care or love her husband. For her, no money and so no honey. The wife decided to divorce her husband. Ultimately, the husband simply has to let go of her gold digger wife. The effect of this kind of divorce to society due to financial reason is dismaying to many people. The wife and husband should remain together through thick and thin, but not for money-loving partner.
III. Conclusion
In conclusion, there are many other causes and ensuing effects of divorce. Some of these include religious and cultural differences, psychological incapacity, poor parenting, etc. In any divorce, when the husband and wife already have children, the most that are greatly affected are their children. The effects of divorce are too many to state here. It all depends on the causes of the divorce and their effect on those affected.
