It can be an overwhelming time when a person is needed to move from the educational environment into the professional working world. People may seem different, and act as if you are the low person on the totem pole. “When deciding to pick a position to apply for; review and research the company for that position” . This will help ensure you are following the company’s expectations, and policies.
The transition from college to the job field can be very stressful. “This new beginning is a chance to use the knowledge learned and put it to use in the work field” . The schedule of the professional world can be very different from the college schedule and social parties. This change can take some getting used too. It is good for a person to realize that in the professional world there are generation gaps, and that the people who have been with the company the longest know what they are doing. Take advice on what you’re not doing correctly, and do not take it personal. The only way to start from the bottom and work your way up is to fix the mistakes that you need to be the best at your job.
Make sure the position you are seeking whether it be profit or non-profit is a good match for you. Pick a position you want to do, and check the organizations before applying for the position. This will give you more detail of what to expect, and what kind of company it is you want to work for. You may feel like you’re not in the highest position you want at the time, but continue to do your best and you can move up if applicable.
Some things that can be done to ease the transition is to pace yourself. “Look at the transition as a positive chance to grow with the business” . Everyday gets easier, and it is best to do what is expected of you to the best of your ability. It will pay off. Ask questions if you’re not sure what to do. The more questions you ask the better understanding you will have in your new profession.
