Cheating is an effort of gaining something by manipulation. Cheating is one of common traits of human behavior and people cheat in their life for various reasons. Some people cheat for materialistic gains, some cheat for gaining in their professional life, while a number of people also cheat in their marital relationship. Cheating in sports has also been a common behavior in recent times. This paper intends to discuss cheating along with discussing how cheating is increasing rampantly in various areas including sports.
Cheating gives an edge to cheaters over others and it reduces competition. Cheating is very common and People cheat in their personal, as well as, professional life with intention of gaining. Some people cheat occasionally while there are many who cheat frequently and cheating becomes an inseparable part of their behavior. Usually Cheaters can easily gain confidence and love of targeted persons including their girlfriend, boss or customers. However cheaters succeed in gaining initial edge over others, they face sheer embarrassment when their lie is busted.
Cheating in sports has been in practice since a long time, though number of incidents of cheating in sports has been increased drastically in recent times. There are different types of cheating in the area of sports. Players do not hesitate from taking prohibited drugs in order to perform better than their competitors. Various other means are also used in sports to defeat other participants and in order to make personal gains.
Many have forgotten Marion Jones now who used to be a darling of American tracks few years ago. Jones earned three gold medals in Sydney Olympic and Americans became her aficionados but sooner it was revealed that she used to take steroids. Ben Johnson from Canada, one more famous sportsman was found involved in cheating. Johnson, who succeeded in winning gold medal in Seoul Olympic and is remembered for breaking world record in 100 meters race, was found taking a prohibited drug Stanozolol.
Drug is the most common example of cheating in sports but famous skater, Tanya Harding broke this limitation and set a new example. It was revealed that she used her ex-husband in breaking the knee of Nancy Kerrigan who was Tanya’s strong competitor. Cheating is not confined to any particular game but it is omnipresent. Diego Maradona used his hand to punch football in the 1986 FIFA world cup.
Cheating is very common in politics and some consider it as an essential feature for being a politician. There are many people who justify cheating and argue that cheating becomes essential at times but while doing so, they ignore the fact that a wrong is always a wrong. Cheating deprives somebody of their rights. Cheating is always wrong and it cannot be justified. Cheaters fail to understand that nothing on this earth is permanent and even if they gain something by cheating, that is not going to stay with them forever. People run behind materialistic things and even do not hesitate from applying dishonest and violent means in achieving their targets. Our education and societal standards are also responsible for increasing incidents of cheating and people’s behavior. People should learn to earn everything in an honest way rather than getting it by cheating.
