REFLECTION ABOUT TWO FILMS
Summary:
Steve Guibord (Starbuck’s Patrick Huard), who was once a stardom in the hockey team is vetted in as the Member of Parliament. As a hockey player, his career entirely comes to an end due to the phobia he had towards flying. It happens that one of the Members of Parliament (MPs) falls ill, and the only person who was valid for the deciding vote was the former professional hockey player, Steve Guibord. His vetting in was so crucial to Canada since he was the one to make a decision on whether or not his country was to send the troops to war against the Middle East. Steve is not particularly well conversant with the Canadian state. For this reason, he faces so much pressure from so many angles including his respective home as a leader. (Irdens Exantus Souverain), who was a student from Haiti and was at that time an intern at the Canadian state comes to his salvation. Souverain dissolves so much mainly negative publicity that was going on at that point. This was after Steve Guibord declares a “window of democracy,” that is, he decides to go around the whole constituency seeking a public opinion. Since he also understands that politics was not his world, it was by luck that he was able to find himself there. Negative publicity affects his way of leadership and also his family as well. This was so bad only for the intern from Haiti to take up the wheel in the democracy run. This was all satirical especially to the democratic state and leaves to be an absurdity in the Canadian politics. This portrays the poor tendency that the Canadians had because it proves on how shallowly the viewed the Democratic leadership instead of focusing on politics as a whole.
Arguments in the Film
Arguments are there in the film. Arguments exist between the public as a whole and the newly elected MP, Steve Guibord. For this reason, his family stays in distress till the intern came to his salvation.
Target Group:
The target group in this particular film is the society as a whole. Ignorance is well displayed in the film since the Canadians choose to ignore their politics and solely focus on their well-being. Hardly do they understand how political societies and Democratic leadership affects their well-being.
Connection between the Film and Reality
The film portrays the ignorance that Canadians tend to have towards their surrounding just because particular issues do not seem to affect them directly. This is portrayed as a bad character since Canadians have the guts to leave a whole constituency in the hands of a hockey player which is very fascinating to imagine. In a real sense, the film educates the people not to be ignorant of issues surrounding them.
Rhetorical Devices the Director uses:
In this case, the director heavily employs satire by revealing how an intern is able to get to such a leadership position and saving the former professional hockey player from misery. This is a big portray of satire which the director employs very well in his film.
A Good American:
Summary:
“The American” allows Jack, part of the cast and is known as George Clooney, to play as a samurai. Primarily he does the assembly of mechanics. Being this skilled, he is geared towards creating weapons for particular tasks. He works under someone called Pavel since he takes his commands with no question. Pavel goes head and assigns him a task of meeting Mathilde, who was an Italian woman. He was able to meet her, and ironically their conversation begins with the word: “Range”. He goes ahead and thinks of getting a room there but feels it was not right for him in that particular instance. So, he decides to go to another village where he finds a priest. It is through the priest where he is able to meet a mechanic whom he walks to his premises and finds the necessary tools and parts he needed to come up with a custom silencer rifle. Moreover, he goes around the venturing process where he comes alongside a whore known as Clara. Ciara was very supportive, and Jack now takes his time to assemble the weapon. Later, he finds people following him on a mission to kill him after having a heated conversation with Pavel, who was his boss. This causes the relationships in the film to rotate around the issue of love. “The American” is too cool about situations since this would have saddened most case movies. Jack portrays some level of weakness in the film which was all love. Since he realizes that he made mistakes by making his relationships break, especially with his boss and mates, he is able to use prostitutes in this case making the film to open up. It is ironic that in a business like Jack’s, you are not bound to trust anyone though nobody know how good Clara is. The film ends similar to a clockwork mechanism arriving at its end.
Arguments in the Film
Arguments between Pavel and Jack are evident especially after Jack makes a call and holds a heated discussion between him and his boss.
Target Group
The target group for this film is men in leadership. Men should not get lured into worldly matters and fail to focus on their primary concern issues. In this case, Jack is lured by prostitutes and finally fails to accomplish the mission his boss; Pavel sent him for in the Italian nation.
Connection between the Film and Reality
The film portrays how luxurious interests can ruin once formalities especially while doing your best to achieve several goals. In the film, Jack does not finally complete his mission since he is lured by prostitutes who take advantage of him thus failing to accomplish the major required goal.
Rhetorical Devices the Director uses:
In this case, the director uses irony by demonstrating how Jack entrusts his well-being to a prostitute who well takes advantage of him, and he finally fails to achieve his primary goal which Pavel sent him to the Italian country to reach.
