Children need their parents at home as much as possible for the most beneficial child nurturing and emotional stability. Is it better for a parent to stay home or leave the child with a caregiver? This decision shows how important a parent’s choice is. It defines a child’s future. There must be better ways or programs that a country can offer to avoid these challenging conditions that poor parents face. Ultimately, the mother usually has the hardest decision deciding whether to leave her child with a caregiver and work in a different country or stay at home and suffer through the financial challenges. If a caregiver rather than a parent raises a child, the child will feel insecure, unstable, and confused. For this reason, there has to be a consideration of a child’s lifestyle, education, and family life needs to decide which direction the mother should choose. That is, whether to stay at home or migrate to another location to provide for the family.
Some mothers choose to leave their children and immigrate to other countries to help their children. Otherwise, the mother and child could lack enough money to pay for food and housing. However, this decision may have some ill effects on their children. Furthermore, these children could develop a lifestyle doing drugs or becoming criminals. If a mother chooses to leave her child with a caregiver and the child becomes unattended, the child might have a desire to go out and discover what is happening in the streets. Moreover, the child will want to seek direction from an elder person. Sadly, this child is innocent. He or she does not know what they face with suspicious people and those who like to take advantage of the children. For instance, the children might encounter drug dealers on the street. An excellent example of this situation relates to a condition of a character in a book called Enrique’s Journey. Enrique’s (the main character) mother, Lourdes, leaves him with his unreliable father when he was five years old. Enrique is traded to one adoptive parent after another. Furthermore, Enrique developed strong hurt feelings from the abandonment to the point where a fighting attitude resulted. Enrique had a depression of sadness, and he did not care if drug dealers convinced him to become a drug user or an addict. As a result, Enrique’s addiction to drugs turned him to criminal behavior. Enrique is arrested for breaking; entering as well as theft (refer to Enrique’s Journey 38-40). Enrique tells the officer who was about to arrest him, “I was drugged. I didn’t want to do it.” Enrique explained to the officer that a dealer wanted money and had threatened to kill Tania, Enrique’s cousin if he did not obey the drug dealer’s orders.
Children of immigrant worker mothers left with their relatives are not always properly encouraged by the relatives to go to school and acquire decent education. These children are not attending school regularly nor doing their homework. In addition, these children might drop out of school. As a result, their teachers become very concerned for their learning development. For example, a child might have notes sent home to the parent asking why the child is not attending school. In addition, the teacher might ask why not the child is turning in homework. This child eventually receives bad grades or he or she does not pass to their next grade level. Consequently, if a child does not have a mother around regularly to give guidance, the child will become academically lost.
Family life is important for a child’s emotional stability. A child separated from his or her mother becomes emotionally hurt, frustrated, and lost to the point where he or she feels resentful, and an attitude develops. Depression sets in, and the child does not care about what happens to him or her. Since the child cannot find a family or someone whom he or she feels comfortable enough to take care of him or her, the child needs acceptance from a friend. If the child had a family around to guide him or her away from the evils of society, the child would not resort to losing himself or herself on the streets. Unfortunately, the child does not have family guidance, and that is why he or she might try to seek friendship by involving himself or herself in a gang or a drug dealer. The child might become a drug user, addict or thief from misguidance by the wrong directions of drug dealers or criminals. Therefore, this child could become a criminal or a drug dealer because he or she did not have a loving family life.
On the other hand, if the child has a parent at home all the time, the child will have the same constant and consistent discipline and love. The child will have a stable emotional mentality. The parents' presence will help a child to have a good lifestyle, education, and family life.
Other mothers who decide to stay with their children at home can spend more time with them. This type of lifestyle for a child is very beneficial for the child’s life-long condition. Even though the mothers struggle to try to invest money on their children, they believe that they have to be there to care for their children. This form of care has some sound effects on their children. For example, if a child knows that his or her loving and caring mother is around all the time, he or she will not have a reason to run away from home. Despite the mother having a hard time finding an income, caring for her child is the most important need. Sometimes a mother can take her child with her to her menial job so she can watch her child while she works. For instance, a child who lives with his or her mother has her guidance, and this helps to improve his social, educational, and emotional development.
Poor mothers struggle financially, and it is hard for them to afford to enroll their children in a school. However, a mother can teach her child right and wrong as well as moral attitudes. These moral teaching methods help a child to advance on his or her way along his or her educational development. Even though a child is poor because his or her parents have no money, there are social programs that provide educational and healthcare assistance. For example, there is an international program called Child Fund provided for the child from age five to fifteen. Besides, Child Fund is a school program that can be usable for credit towards a college. The Child Fund program involves the mother and child in its activities. Therefore, opportunities for education can be available in poverty family-run conditions.
A mother’s loving care helps a child to have emotional security, which helps them develop positive attitudes and a willingness to work towards their future. When a mother hugs her child and gives affection, the child feels stable emotionally, and this helps the child to feel self-confident. If a child has an emotional or social challenge, the child knows that the mother is around to give full support and encouragement. Fortunately, this helps a child to feel safe and secure as well as to be ready to face significant future. In addition, a child who has a good family life will not be influenced by the wrong kind of people on the street. A good attitude helps to solve social problems. For instance, someone will not try to convince a child to involve themselves in drugs, sex, nor theft. Luckily, the mother is present to stop her child from all these evils. As a result, a child raised with a loving mother will become socially acceptable due to a proper moral attitude and a good parental child rearing.
In conclusion, staying with and leaving children have some bad and good effects. Deciding whether to leave or stay with children is not an easy choice for mothers. Lifestyle, education, and family life are some important facts that every mother has to think about before she chooses to become an immigrate worker. In my view, I would prefer that mother stay home. The child’s emotional, educational, and social security becomes challenged. I believe that for a child to advance successfully in life, the family influence must be the foundation of his or her life.
