Good Essay About Concert Report

The concert that I attended was quite an interesting one bringing together music from an established composer in the form of Sir Edward Elgar, on to other works by several lesser known names including Victor Ewald and the young Kevin Mckee.
The Brass Arts Quintet consists of Charles Decker and Chris McCormick on trumpets, Greg Danner on the horn, Joshua Hauser on trombone and Ryan Snell on tuba. One immediately noted the excellent interplay between these soloists especially in the more complex pieces.
Edward Elgar’s ‘Pomp and Circumstance March Nr 2 is perhaps one of the lesser known ones although it has some wonderful motor rhythms that were well brought out by the The Brass Arts Quintet. Victor Ewald is another underrated composer but his Brass Quintet Nr 3 deserves special mention. The Allegro moderato came across as very persuasive whilst the Intermezzo contained some intriguing foibles that were well handled by the quintet.
I was bowled over by the aptly titled Reflective Mood – a composition by Sammy Nestico who at the grand old age of 90 is still composing. The quintet certainly lived up to its exotic name and played with blinding panache by the Brass Arts. ‘Tico Tico’ is a piece where the players can let their hair down, and it was certainly done that way here. Finally the concert was rounded off with an exquisite ‘Ride of Fire’ by Kevin McKee, a young composer who is certainly very promising indeed.
The Wattenberger Auditorium at the Tennessee Bryan Fine Arts Building is definitely an excellent venue for such concerts and the music came across very well indeed. A thoroughly enjoyable event.
