Football as a sport should not be stopped. Doing so shall have very many ramifications to the economy of many countries and also to the players. It is also one of the most liked sports all over the world that harnesses the talents of young people. It is also important to note that concussions alone cannot be a good ground, strong enough to cause stoppages of football and all other sports have negative effects too.
The rules can be changed to reduce the chances of concussions occurring. Protective gear can be introduced in the sport. This shall ensure that the chances of concussion occurring shall be low. A consideration of making tackling a foul in the filed can be made. Such a decision shall ensure that, there are low chances of hard hitting and consequently reduction in concussions. The coaches have to teach the player the importance of avoiding extreme hard hitting in the sport to reduce the levels of concussions.
The effects of hard hitting take long time to be seen. This makes them different from the others. This is because the effects accumulate over time and start showing up at later years. Research need to be undertaken to establish other differences. It would be of great importance for players to donate their brains for research in order to help in understanding of the effects of concussions.
There is a difference in the permanent cognitive disability and permanent physical disability. The permanent cognitive disability takes much longer time to occur while permanent physical disability is almost immediate. The modes of treatment are also different. The cognitive damage requires brain therapy and psychiatrist attention whereas physical damage may require physiotherapy to help in the rectification of the damages.
