There are new crimes now that were not possible before. However, in this new age that we live in, there are still some age-old sins that are being committed. There are different types of sinners now that were not present in the past. These sinners can be generalized into different classes of sinners. These are as follows (1 – 7, 7 being the worst type of sinner):
1. Petty crimes – these are the people who are not necessarily aware of their sins. Smaller sins such as lying, cheating, downloading illegal content, etc. fall under this category. These are the individuals who are not believers of anything holy. They are the ones who could belong in the first circle of hell. It is still possible for these sinners to be redeemed.
2. Burglars – the burglars are those who commit small crimes, yet they know what they are doing. Most of the time, these burglars are doing it because of a socio-economic need. They only want to provide for their families. They do not want to harm anyone, and they are only committing these crimes due to what people would consider under the constraint theory.
3. Grand larceny thieves – these people are in for the bigger things. They commit elaborate crimes due to greed and sometimes even pride. These criminals do not necessarily need these things. They just want to gain more wealth than they already have. Not only do these criminal know what they are doing, they plan all these robberies, exploiting those who need the cash. Some of these thieves commit online crimes that cause further exploitation. These people can also be politicians, corrupt businessmen and other people who want to exploit the innocent.
4. Arsonists – In Nevada, there is an increase in arson (Donathan and Jaewon). These people might think that they are just having fun, but they end up hurting a lot of people and they destroy property. Not only do they put a lot of lives in danger, they take away the property of innocent residents who may not have a way to rebuild or fix their houses. They do this knowing their crime will hurt people emotionally and physically. What is worse is that they might even do it for fun.
5. Aggravated Assault – these individuals commit their crimes with the intention to hurt other people. They want to humiliate and degrade those who they attack. Most of the time, these things are done in gangs, where the people just want to attack innocent individuals for fun. The victims of these crimes are left defenseless, sometimes they suffer very severe injuries.
6. Forcible Rapists and sex offenders – as of 2013, the number of sex offenders in Nevada alone increased (Donathan and Jaewon). Forcible rapists are one of the most despicable sinners of all. They take pleasure in humiliating and objectifying their victims, who are both men and women. Sometimes their victims are innocent children whom they have abducted. Sometimes, rapists end up killing their victims, too which make them guilty of two different types of sins, and therefore they end up being punished for their atrocious acts twice over. Rapists and sex offenders might say that they only do the things they do because of a sickness, disease, for revenge or anything else, but they know all too well what they are doing and they should be accountable for their sins.
7. Murderers and manslaughters – weather serial killers or meditated murderers, these people know their sins and sometimes, they take pleasure in them. They take the lives away of innocent people even before they are due. Serial killers do not see other people as humans, they view these things as games. Although the rate of murders in Nevada has gone down significantly since the year 2006, there are still many cases of murder all throughout the state, meaning that there are still people committing these terrible crimes (Donathan and Jaewon).
All types of sins must not go unpunished. Each person, no matter how grave the sin will end up paying for their sins for eternity. For each new circle, there is an appropriate punishment for the sinners. Here is the list of contropassos for each sin:
First Circle: the first circle of sinners will go around alone and in the dark. No matter how much they try to strain their eyes or see anything in front of them, they will not make anything out of what lies ahead. They will constantly bump into each other, unable to speak. They can only groan and mutter, and no one will ever show them comfort or know what their names are. They will feel extremely hot and extremely cold at times. This limbo, though is only for those who do not accept a higher being. However, if they do they can get out of limbo.
Second Circle: The second circle will be a bit worse as compared to the first. These sinners will be dunked into an ice cold bath, if they try to escape, they will be engulfed in fire. They will be surrounded by images of things most terrifying to them. They will never be comfortable with anything around them. They will constantly hear crying and screaming. Their ears will bleed from all the torment they hear around them.
Third Circle: this circle is for people who are corrupt and greedy. They will live their lives feeling naked, ashamed and constantly ridiculed. They will have nothing around them, and their surroundings will be ice cold. They will wander around in the dark barefoot, for eternity. No one will ever help them or want to know their names. They will be pushed and shoved around by the beings around them. They will see no kindness at all during their time in this circle of hell. They will spend the days of eternity weeping.
Fourth Circle: Arsonists will spend eternity burning in a pit. They will feel what other people have felt because of their crimes. They will own nothing, and every day they will have their entire bodies disintegrated, only to be resurrected and burnt again the next day. No matter how hard they try to climb, they will not be able to reach the surface of the pit. They will drown in the smoke of the pit, which smells of foul things. No matter how hard they cry out, no one will be able to hear them, and they will be alone.
Fifth Circle: this circle is for those who have committed aggravated assault. Individuals in this circle will be tortured upside-down, with their heads inside a hot pit of sulfur while their feet are hanging by chains in ice cold conditions. They will feel pain all throughout their bodies, and they will choke on their own tears. They will struggle to escape, but every time they try to move, they will feel excruciating pain. These individuals will be in a crowded pit, but they are selfish and will never try to help each other. They will all drown in each other’s pain and sorrow.
Sixth Circle: the sixth circle is for the rapists and sex offenders. They will be surrounded by giant beings who will humiliate and torture them. They will be alone, naked and scared in vast spaces that are too dark to navigate around. They will walk barefoot on hot coals and spend their days looking for an escape. No matter how far they walk or where they turn, there will be no escape. They will have their limbs chained in tight hot searing metal, and their tears will burn their faces. They will not see any other human or anyone who is familiar, and they will live out the rest of eternity feeling alone, ashamed and being reminded of what they did on earth.
Seventh Circle: the last circle is for murderers, these are the ones who have committed the worst crimes. They will be locked in a tight room, chained from their hands and feet, not being able to move. The chains will sear through their skin and the ice-cold ground will burn their feet. They will try to see what is going on outside through small holes in the walls, but all they will be able to see are other murderess being tortured and ridiculed. Their voices will be gagged and they will not be able to scream or shout no matter how hard they try.
The vision of hell that I have is a dark and lonely place where people walk around alone, looking for someone to comfort them. They will be reminded every day of what they have done, and the conditions will not be comfortable at all. They will be naked and embarrassed, and they will be tortured and humiliated all day long. They will want to shout or scream, but their voices will be gagged. They will not be able to see past a couple of yards ahead of them because of the darkness. They will be scared knowing that this kind of torture will not end. The sinners will be damp, wet and seeking refuge, but no one will come to aid them.
