The national inventory of critical infrastructure includes the prioritization of critical roles of the government such as contingency, planning across jurisdictions and across individual disciplines, reinforcing, trainings of such plan that involves both public and private sector, and to give emphasis on the information sharing between public and private sectors using unified approach.
This approach includes inventory of critical infrastructure through the application of ACAM, otherwise known as Automated Critical Asset Management system. The philosophy of this project is based on the needs for identification as well as the prioritization of critical infrastructures, assets, networks, and system across both jurisdiction and series of jurisdiction. This is essential for state and local authorities when it comes to identifying the critical areas within their jurisdiction. For instance, the government’s provision of critical response during law enforcement operation that calls for timely action. This response will be tied up down to the local police officer and community individuals and can be done through creation of appropriate infrastructure, such as a computer network. Another importance of the national inventory of critical infrastructure enabled the critical military operations to become more prepared. Thus, it enables the identification of critical aspects at the national level, which therefore enabled the coordination of both the local, state, and federal authorities when it comes to strengthening the defense across the country (Dr. Robert Stephens, YouTube.com, 2012). Furthermore, the national inventory of critical infrastructure would improve the public health and safety, national economy, and even local, state, and federal governance, including the national defense. That is why; Dr. Robert Stephen claims that the national inventory of critical infrastructure must continue to protect the nation against adverse events.
