“Cognitive Behavioral Techniques used to Complement Mediation for Improved Pain Control in Cancer Treatment” is a research that focuses on the implementation of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to manage pain in cancer patients while complementing medications and surgery. The research evaluates the impact of varied techniques to balance pharmaceutical therapy and adapt to particular patient needs. The research question is what the effect of combining imagery, PMR (Progressive Muscle Relaxation) and counseling methods with pain medications is as opposed to using pain medications alone to improve pain control in adult patients suffering from cancer.
The research results showed positive outcome when applying several CBT techniques to cancer treatment. However, further studies are required to evaluate the most efficient of the techniques applied to the problem of reducing pain in combination with medications. When tailored and implemented individually, one-on-one therapy, CBT brings a positive outcome. To conclude with, CBT can be adapted to patient psychological needs and thus it should be included in pain treatment for patients suffering from cancer.
The research format corresponds in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Doctor degree in nursing. The thesis is clearly introduced in Introduction part of the paper and topic sentences are present in almost all the body paragraphs throughout the paper. Transitions are logical and supported; however, no direct evidence of the main idea repeated in those body paragraphs that build up a topic sentence. Several ideas are continuously repeated, although they are obvious to the readership and for that reason should not be restated again. There are some minor stylistic mistakes observed throughout the paper. Lastly, a greater variety of sentences could be used to capture the interest of the reader.
