This paper describes two different practices in management that happened in two advertising agencies. One example is a good managerial practice, and the second one is bad. These two examples are interesting because both of them happened to the same employee, who shared this experience for this paper.
A Bad Management Practice (Advertising Company A)
One advertising agency was very loved by its customers. Clients were different companies and shops who wanted to conduct opening ceremony, advertising campaign or any corporate event for themselves. In fact, the company A had a good reputation among customers because it did all the tasks efficiently and on time. However, there was one feature of the inner workings of the company – an extremely high turnover. The management of the company A estimated its employees just as a source of creative ideas, which were to be created continuously. As soon as the employee ceased to produce so many creative ideas, as needed, he or she was replaced with a new one. However, in most cases, the management did not have to dismiss such “worn out” employees because usually they dismissed by themselves. Management of the A company was so focused on its clients that did not pay attention to the development of the proper psychological climate in the team at all. As a result, the management demanded more and more from each worker, forcing them to work overtime and even at night in order to complete the entire scope of work.
A Good Management Practice (Advertising Company B)
A good example of a good management practice is an advertising company B, whose management takes care of the strong team creation. As well as company, the company B had a good reputation among customers trying to meet their needs to the maximum. As a result, customers valued services of this company so much that it (company B) was even able to raise the prices of their services without any loss of regular customers. However, it is important to say that the management of the company B was very considerate to its employees. The company's management understood that the work in an advertising agency often requires overtime work or work at night, so the workers were allowed to come to work a little later, to be able to relax fully. Moreover, the company's management did not apply the penalties system because when it is noticed that the worker made some mistake, the company's management used to give advice on how to avoid it. Thus, everyone - the company, customers and employees - benefited from this type of management.
