Arranged marriages bring together two families together as against just two individuals in love marriages. Therefore, family members always come to the support of the couple during testing times. In short, individuals united through arranged marriages are always under the surveillance of their parents and other family members. This means the possibilities of arranged marriages breaking away are very less when compared to love marriages. Even though in majority of the arranged marriages both the boy and girl appear to be strangers to each other, their parents are convinced beforehand that they both would make a perfect couple. However, providing a chance for both the boy and girl to come together for an open talk to understand each other would prevent embarrassments in the future. Also, the practice of hiring go-betweens to fix arranged marriages may lead to discomforts to both families if family members do not verify the family backgrounds before finalizing the marriage proposal.

Arranged marriages must give more focus to love and good family relationships rather than paying interest to fulfilling only the economic needs of families. The failure rate of arranged marriages in China, Japan and Korea may be rightly attributed to the parents’ greed for money or over enthusiasm in seeing their children’s future secured. On the other hand, love marriages that take place after the boy and girl spend years in understanding each other fail when both the boy and girl encounter misunderstandings induced by job-related stress. Therefore, be it a love marriage or an arranged one, a perfect balance between financial requirements and loving relationships needs to be established for the marriages to sustain. More importantly, an arranged marriage prove to be a success when it is arranged by the parents of the boy and girl who have better track record of leading successful married lives with their spouses in the first place.
