The United States is a country that was established by immigrants from all parts of the world. However the immigrants have not always shared the same experience and this has been propagated by their differences in ethnical as well as racial background. Integration of these immigrants in the American society has had many differences and also many similarities. African Americans have had a long struggle throughout history to be equally integrated and accepted in the American society. Europeans did not have that difficulty as they were the first immigrants and constituted the majority of the population.
Years after the United States gained independence people have continued to immigrate to the country largely due to its economic progress that has led to Latino immigration into the country looking for jobs. Latino experience in the country largely resembles that of the African Americans in that it has been met with a lot of resistance by the American population and mostly European immigrant. Transition from their ethnic or native identity to see themselves as Americans is still a long process and most first generation Latinos mostly speak Spanish as compared to second generation Latinos who prefer to speak English and identify themselves as Americans.
These has been the case for African American immigrants as well as European immigrants thus Latinos have experienced both the experiences of these other groups from racial profiling as well as identifying the United States as their home. Like everyone else, transition and assimilation will take time and full integration to the American society is still far from done. Latinos will have to struggle including through political forums since only 40 percent are eligible to vote. A lot will have to be done for Latinos to have the full American experience as is enjoyed by Europeans and African Americans.
