Essay for Business School
The urge to excel in life and perform exemplary acts has led people to tread paths that were arduous but filled with learning and wisdom. I am no different since I have always managed to tread difficult paths in the face of insurmountable obstacles and always managed to achieve unbridled success in such attempts. At present, my aim would be to gain entry into EBS for a variety of reasons.
EBS school is a world renowned business school that is known for its Executive MBA program. This program is a top notch program that is combined with the Durham Business school, UK that makes it the perfect opportunity for me. My current role as a marketing director at INFITEC GmbH required me to develop a certain business skill set that I believe this particular program would imbibe in me.
My previous academic background has also laid the foundation for me to pursue this MBA program. Basically, I am from a military background, which was instrumental in me becoming organized and disciplined in my approach to both life and work. When I was 13, I was admitted to the Dholpur Military School, Rajasthan(India). However, unfortunately due to a training accident I was disqualified to be an officer on medical grounds. However, I did not give up and decided to pursue options even in the face of adversity. So I joined one of the top engineering schools in India (Karunya University,Coimbatore from 2008 to 2012) and ended up graduating at the top of my class in the area of Computer science and engineering.
One of my biggest achievements with my current employer is that the marketing operations of my firm would be soon exceeding the marketing operations of our partner firm Vision Optics GmbH. The skills I learn in this program would enable me to apply the same in real time when working on particular assignments. Additionally, I am also working on commencing my own music label start-up and EBS has a special program in Silicon Valley for entrepreneurs which would significantly enhance the appeal of the program, as far as I am concerned. I also personally feel that the MBA program is not just for professional understanding but also for personal understanding. The values I learn during my studies are values that I would also be passing on to my children in the future.
Since the entire MBA program is about a give and take idea of learning, I would be bringing significant learning and skills from my job as well as other additional certifications. For instance, in addition to English, I am also fluent in German and Hindi. As far as technical skills go, I have developed myself in a number of computer programs and platforms including, but not limited to SAP – ERP, HTML/CSS, and Android. As a virtue of my experience in marketing with my present company, I have also developed advanced skills in Social media networking, Online branding, Digital marketing, and other facets related to marketing.
My short term goal is to quickly adapt to specific job requirements in order to grasp job requirements faster. I aim at someday rising to the post of a Chief Marketing Officer. I also look forward to a global professional exposure combined with cross functional experiences. My long term goals would more likely revolve working in the AR industry. Given the fact that I am working for one of the companies who is an undisputed technology leader in the 3D industry, I feel when one launches one’s own AR products, such events would make waves. So I hope to achieve a goal wherein I can build my firm in a manner so as to leave a mark in the tech industry in the coming years. Being a son of a fashion designer, I hope to have my own personal projects too in this area. I have already started a lifestyle blog at ‘ankitupadhyay.com’ for which I have received tremendous reviews from people. I believe in the coming years this passion project of mine should also take off.
However, in sum, I still believe that the stepping stone to all these endeavours would be an exemplary MBA program like the one offered at EBS.
Three Significant Achievements
While most of us have had achievements of numerous kinds throughout our lives, it is always the top two or three achievements that stand out since they manage to shape us into the people we are today. In my life too, three such events stand out that I regard as significant achievements that have managed to shape my life in a positive manner.
In my life stages, certainly my first significant achievement came at the age of 12 when I earned my first 10 pounds. The experience became an incident that I would reckon with for the rest of my life. It was my very first earning and on many different levels it was a memory that I would cherish for the rest of my life. At the time, I was torn between saving up that bit of money or spending it on something good. At some point, it was my father who impressed on me the importance of saving up for a rainy day or towards certain goals in life. This little important yet concise thought on the importance of saving money has enabled me to be prepared in times of contingencies.
The second most significant achievement in my life came as recently as 2012. At around the time, I contracted Tuberculosis. Although most people are unaware of the disease, it is one of those diseases that take more of a mental toll on the victim in addition to a physical toll. However, I managed to battle the disease keeping a positive mindset and with regular visits to the doctor. While some times I did get negative thoughts about whether I would actually recover from the disease, I eventually managed to shrug it off and give the thing a conceited fight. Finally, I won and now consider myself a survivor. The experience left a lasting impression on my mind since it showed me the fragility of life itself and also displayed to me the powers of one’s mental strength.
Thirdly, the most significant achievement of my life would be my internship with INFITEC (2011) and my subsequent selection for a full time position as a Developer/Market Analyst. I can say with confidence that my entire learning post education started at Infitec. The exemplary work I did at the company propelled me to the post of a Marketing Director in the firm. Even today my learning hasn’t stopped at the company and everyday carries a new excitement and a challenge. Clearly, for someone who graduated from another country to move to a country where English is not the primary language and to actually excel in work there comes as a significant achievement.
There is a clear reason I have for selecting these three achievements out of a number of other options. All the three achievements showcase my different facets and skillsets that one could readily apply to workplace and business scenarios. For instance, the reason for selecting the first instance would be to showcase my sense of learning that kick-started at a very early age and is in progress. The other reason for selecting this achievement is also to highlight my sense of financial understanding. The reason for showcasing the second achievement was to clearly highlight my grit and determination in battling situations where nearly everything is lost. Sometimes these two qualities are instrumental in winning even lost battles and that was exactly what happened when I survived the bout of TB. The third instance of the job at INFITEC was chosen by me to highlight two different aspects – one was to show my ability to adjust and excel in a variety of different environments. This factor is very important if I am to become a global manager for a business or a corporate. The second aspect is that this achievement highlights the span of growth that I achieved in the very short span that led me to move up from a Developer to a Marketing Director.
The combined factors mentioned above in the achievements, namely grit, determination, ability to adjust in various environments and excel in the same, my sense of financial understanding and, lastly, my ability to fight difficult situations and emerge victorious make me an ideal candidate for a business role in any global entity.
