Having lived in a small town all my life, I have always had a dream of moving to a big city where it is believed one can become anyone anything he/she wants. However, I have fears since I have heard a lot of negative things that are associated with living in big city. For instance, the cost of living as well as crime are high in big cities. This will have a huge impact in my life since I am not used to this lifestyle.
Nowadays, people move from small towns to big cities to push their dreams. People move to big cities to find better employment and education opportunities, live a comfortable life, and to get access to culture. A big city offers the best opportunities, compared to small towns. For instance, in big cities, it is easier to find the best schools and universities, in addition to great job opportunities. In small towns, there are scarce job opportunities, and if one finds any, the salaries are very low. However, the noteworthy reason as to why people move in big cities is in search of employment, that can give them financial stability, and a good opportunity to support their families financially. The jobs available in small towns offer very little salary, and many people opt to move in a big city to increase their income. In the big cities, the working environment is competitive thus offering a ground to sharpen one’s skills and become more dynamic (Polese 36). Therefore, in a big city, there are more opportunities for promotion in a career compared to a small town.
In addition, after high school, many young people choose to move in big cities in order to get the best universities to further their education. The education facilities and the Universities in the big cities are high-tech, and they provide the best education for young people. People living in big cities can access advanced education compared to those living in a small town; therefore, it is beneficial to move in a big city from a small town. Moving in a big town gives one a chance to access modern education institutions that are equipped with modern facilities and excellent teachers.
Moving in a big city is beneficial to everyone. Travelling is more convenient in a big city compared to a small town. Accessing transport is easy because, public transport is well developed making travelling more convenient. In addition, this makes going to work easier compared to a small town where getting transport to work is hectic. The transport system is convenient compared to the transport system in a small town. The transport system in the big city is efficient and easily accessible compared to small towns, however, in the big city; there is a heavy traffic and expensive parking lots.
Moving in a big city is beneficial because, big cities are more advanced and industrialized; therefore, a lot can be found without much effort and time compared to a small town. There are more financial and business centers with large companies in the big city making it competitive compare to a small town, Therefore, when one move to a big city, there are many opportunities compared to the limited opportunities in a small town (Polese 37). There are good medical care and housing conditions in the big cities compared to small towns. There are many medical facilities and medical centers where people can easily access medical care compared to the scarce medical facilities in small towns (Leon 7). For that reason, when one moves into a big city, he/she is guaranteed good medical care from modern facilities and highly trained professionals.
However, moving to a new place can be very challenging because, one has to leave everything behind and start a fresh life. First, one has to live the friends he/she knew and start a life with new friends. In addition, in big cities, life is very different, from traffic laws to the prices of commodities as well as the means of transport. In addition, while in a big city, making a decision on what to eat can be very difficult, because of the numerous places to eat. Life in a big city is easy, but with the different kinds of fast foods, it can be difficult to get the right food, as in small towns (Health Journal). Comparably, small towns are boring at times because, one is not able to socialize with people from different places since you are used to the people around you. Moreover, there is no fun like in the big city.
In conclusion, moving from a small town to a big city is a big step for every person. However, every person has his/her preference as some people prefer living in a small town while others prefer to live in big cities. Each of the environments has its benefit and detriment depending on a person’s experience. Change can be very difficult, especially when one has to give up everything they are used to, in order to move to a new place. However, moving to a big city from a small town is beneficial to everyone. A big city has great opportunities ranging from employment, education to good medical facilities. Many people always have a thought that big cities are dirty, very noisy and unsafe, but my experience in the big city gave me a different idea. Big cities are the best place to find great opportunities compared to small towns, moreover; they are the safest place to live because of the tight security. Therefore, as much as I respect people’s point of view about the big cities, my experience gave me a different point of view, I enjoy the diversity of the big city. Living in a big city has more opportunities and is convenient compared to a small town; however, we have to choose depending on our preferences.
