Most of the hoteliers need to adopt sustainable activities for reduction in wastes through environmental management system (EMS) .These hoteliers can increase their financial performance and modest advantages by engaging in environmentally and socially accountable practices(Granly & Welo ,2014).
I do not believe that environment friendly practice is a trend that hoteliers are utilizing to make the impression on of customers. I think that integrating environmental plans in hotel functions is beneficial for both the hotel and the environment. Hoteliers are not only presenting the color on their customers but also are conserving money in the long run. In addition, publicity could be achieved by sustainable campaigns and awarded via honors and bringing up in the knowledge of public.
I am doing my internship in Regent Taipei hotel and observed many environmental management processes. Regent Taipei has made enormous efforts in reducing carbon emission in our hotel by about 3200 tons each year. This is to ensure that our earth will be conserved and also bring global warming and the degradation of the ozone layer to a minimum ("Regent Taipei”).
At Regent Taipei, numerous eco-friendly approaches are employed in order to ensure that better values are offered to customers and also that our environment is properly maintained. Top notch, significant and promising eco-friendly approaches have been employed in Regent Taipei, and the target is to set the pace in the hotel industry which other hoteliers will learn. Great toll has already been made on the environment by various human activities such as the burning of coals, natural gas, electricity and so forth, causing dangers as the melting of the polar caps and rise in temperature. With the environmental management practices employed by Regent Taipei, greater values will be offered for the environment as well as our customers ("Regent Taipei,”).
EMS waste impacts environmental programs in a systematic, planned, documented and comprehensive way for the approach about waste reduction. EMS has to do with good practices involving monitoring summarizing and reporting of environmental performance to the hotel's stakeholders. It is pivotal in hotels for waste management. Since it is a database system, it is very easy to draw conclusion as well as inference and make a decision from the data or information obtained from the system.
