Good Essay About Sociology In The Animated Film Shrek

There are many sociological components portrayed in the animated film, Shrek. One good example is how taxes are implements by their tyrant leader. Although in the film Shrek (and all the other Shrek films), the tax system of their land is not the focal point of the story but is still displayed how high taxes and improper use of funds make the life of the villagers difficult. Many of the villagers attempted to revolt against the abuse of power by the rulers in the land. This is another sociological aspect, power and power imbalance.
The element of power imbalance is shown in how rulers often abuse their position to accumulate wealth from the people but do not use the funds for the improvement of their lives. The accumulation of wealth is often exclusive only to those in authority as observed in the movie. It is also portrayed in the movie how citizens are clustered into different levels and ironically the higher tax payers are those who belong to the lower status. The movie also showed how the military is used as an arm to promulgate the injustice to the citizens. Most of the time, people who are not able to pay their taxes are captured without due process and trial and are sentenced to imprisonment.
Despite Shrek being a children’s movie, it is good to analyze the film in a sociological spectrum due to the fact that there exists sociological elements in the all the films. The ruling system of the film is an example of tyranny and how it pushes its people to go against the will of their government to fight for both justice and equality.
