Walt Whitman is the composer of “Song of Myself” along with his other poetic work. In the poem, he has tried to elaborate on the purpose of life and written it in his signature freestyle. The paper highlights the significance of verse 16 of the poem, “Song of Myself.” In the poem, Walt has tried to use synecdoche style to emphasize on his two sides “old and young,” “foolish and wise”, and “ever regardless of other and regardful of others.” He believes that there are two sides to him that contribute to his being. According to him, everyone is equal regardless of what personality they have, either good or evil, in the end, everyone in his eyes holds an equal rank. Furthermore, he has tried to draw attention towards the concept of one of the nation, he believes in the strength of an individual man and connection to all other men around the world. He has beautifully explained that regardless of physical location, everyone is connected in a peculiar way.
He believes he could be anything like a Southerner, Yankee, and, a Kentuckian. He has conveyed an exquisite message that every soul belongs to a different part of the world, and regardless of race, creed and ethnicity are connected and can be united. However, he has also drawn attention towards the belief he has that he belongs to every hue and caste. The writer has tried his readers to indulge themselves in the conviction that everyone is connected to earth and contributes to the bigger scheme of life. The firm message of the verse is that writer believes that whether it is a farmer or priest, each and everyone is same and rejects all the differences created by class division and race. Walt Whitman beautifully explains the connection of human with nature and after death, he is going to give back to nature by mixing with the elements. He has explained the significance and purpose of life and contribution of human to earth after death.
