Gary Kelly is the chairperson of the board, the chief executive officer (CEO) and the president of Southwest Airlines Company, which is the largest low-cost carrier in the world. He has been the chairperson of the company since 2005 with its headquarters based in Dallas Texas. Since the start of the business, Gary has shown tremendous performance and has since moved his way up through various positions including principal accounting officer, finance vice president, executive vice president of finance and finally made the CEO.
As the chief executive officer of his company, Gary has exhibited a unique leadership style that is not easily found on most of the CEOs in America and related airline industry. He led by example where his juniors followed his steps (SouthWest, 2016). He created a culture in the southwest airlines emphasized on the environmental conduciveness. His core values of honesty, open-mindedness, independence, imagination and cheerfulness shaped the behavior of the individuals in the company that led to achievements set by the corporation. With his leadership style, employees get motivated to treat their counterparts
He is a very charismatic leader because his style of leadership is aligned perfectly with the culture of the company that creates happiness among the people working with him. For example during the Halloween, he went to the office with a pink dress and high heels which showed how he was a kind person others might want to follow his character through such funny deeds (SouthWest, 2016). People get to have fun and enjoy every moment of their jobs through the charismatic works of their boss that boosts their morale.
Gary's personal attributes were shaped by the southwestern brand of good morals and integrity he was bestowed on by his father. His core values are centered on encouraging a healthy work environment where individuals have fun in the company, enjoy their jobs and do them to the best of their ability (CRM Productions., & CRM Educational Films 1975). This act of enabling a good working atmosphere helps him in motivating workers of the airline company without getting any bored. The motivation of employees is usually made of the good relationship they have with the leader.
