The book entitled “The World is Flat 3.0” was the third update to the original book that was published under the same title by author Thomas L. Friedman. The book offers a discussion that was initially inspired by a statement made by Infosys Technology’s CEO Nandan Nilekani on how the playing has been leveled. In this edition, Friedman offered ten forces that have flattened the world which has a significant impact in business, education, and commerce. In his book, Friedman identified the second flattener as primarily one that initiated the massive shrinking and leveling of the world. The dawn of the internet and the boom of the .com era has allowed the easy transfer of knowledge and information to the world. With the internet being widely accessible communication and transfer of data has been possible even at real-time. Thus, countries do not need to rely on delayed media broadcast to be informed of what is happening on the other side of the world. Furthermore, this has globalized the system of information which has a significant impact on business, and commerce. The internet has allowed for companies to communicate, transact and learn from each other without the need to move from one places to another. This also allowed the process of outsourcing to be done more efficiently and effectively. Learning has also been done more efficiently, and economical given the new interface developed in the field of education which globalized the system of education. Now, getting an international degree does not have to require students to go abroad, spend thousands of dollars for tuition fee, board and lodging, and allowances. Education can now be done efficiently anywhere.
