Dear Appeals Committee,
The main issue I would like to argue is the passing grade of my essay dedicated to the topic of the role of the Seneca Falls Convention in women rights movement. The criteria used for the assessment of the essay included critical reading, thinking, and writing that reached a grade 6 with the minimum necessary grade of 7. First of all, I have to note that neither of the parts of the paper was graded as poor and were rated either good or fair. Secondly, I would like to mention that the paper followed all instructions and included all required elements recommended by the professor. The instructions required the students to provide their analysis of origins of Seneca Falls Conventions, its initial intentions, and fulfillment of its goals. The explanation of the specific thesis developed by each of the students had to contain clear reasoning, personal insight, and explanation of the vision on the topic by arguments and historical facts provided by respective readings. Also, there was a list of concepts I had to incorporate into the canvas of the paper, which was fulfilled as well.
The evaluation of the critical thinking skills revealed that I have included the historical background of the story needed for the paper, yet have forgotten to add the analysis of these events. However, I argue that the historical insight was crucial to the paper, as the instructions required to describe the origins of the story and show why Seneca Falls Convention was important in a specific period of time. Therefore, I have included the depiction of the state of womanhood in the beginning of the 19th century. Specifically, I claimed that “females could not have any professional occupationcould not vote and being the members of the jurytheir rights to execute power in the country was taken away.” I compared it to the present state of women and connected these facts to the significance of Seneca Falls Convention, which relates to the origins of the Women Rights movement. In addition, the evaluation claimed that there is no evidence supporting the importance of the Convention, yet I think I have provided numerous facts to support my position, including the state of women in those years, their inability to control their life or even their bodies, which served as the main trigger of the movement.
The feedback regarding the critical reading I consider to be correct at some point. It was claimed that I have misinterpreted the concept of myth, which had to be included in the paper. I agree that I did not incorporate this notion appropriately in one occasion, where I used it in direct instead of figurative meaning. However, the readings that I had to use for this assignment limited the ability to encapsulate the concept of myth into the essay. While the evaluation argues that there is no connection between the sources, it has to be noted that the readings are very similar and overall describes the same concepts and historical events. As there is no versatility in the sources, it is problematic to distinguish between them in the text. The elements of writing were marked as good, but there is an argument that some of the sentences do not support my point correctly. I think that I did not get off the subject in my paper and I have included the evidence of my point.
Frankly speaking, all comments of my skills had only one central point, namely the lack of evidence, which I do not support because I have included the historical facts, clear argumentation, and systematic analysis of the assigned topic. The origins of the Seneca Falls Convention were included, the goals of this meeting were depicted as well, and finally, there was an explanation why their aims were only partially fulfilled, according to my argument. I claimed that “Seneca Falls meeting managed to create a foundation for feminism, even though the goals were not really achieved right after the Convention”. I argued that the purpose was not attained due to the specificity of historical time, lack of support, and the sudden rise of suffragette movement as well as abolitionism. I consider that my point was clearly stated, rationally supported, and effectively concluded in the essay.
Sincerely Yours,
