The effect of Air Pollution
Have you ever felt that that the air quality has changed a lot in recent years? Seemingly, it has become full of pollutants coming from vehicles fumes, burning and factories wastes, making it difficult for breathing. Air pollution has become a threat for human health as it hurts their health badly and of the most effective factors of air pollution is the smoke results from fires and burning which is full of toxic substances. It pollutes the air and makes it harmful for living beings. Also, factories emission and other human activities have a bad effect on the air which we breathe, in many ways. Air pollution can be addressed by recognizing the major factors, forest fires, factories emission and transport vehicles. It is important to understand the major causes of air pollution.
Air pollution means an adverse impact on the composition of air and addition of chemical pollutants which make it very harmful for human beings. What causes air pollution? In fact there are many causes that lead to it and one of these reasons and which is considered the worst of all, is the forest fires. Such fires are very huge as they include a numerous amounts of trees and dry grass. They release tremendous amount of smoke which involves small particles of dust and all this travels into air and pollutes it. These compounds emitted to the air are full Co2 oxide of nitrogen, methane and other harmful gases. Based on the sharpness of the forest fires, the rate of increase in such toxic gases will be higher and the impact of air pollution will be bigger. Dempse (2013) said that such compounds released from woods fire results in large mass and a large variety of hydrocarbon compounds and the small particles carried to the air adds to the condensation and evaporation processes. It has been proven that smoke released from large woodfires can travel to near areas and have a bad effect on air for example fires happened in Saskatchewan. They travelled to a distance of 2,500 Km and badly affected the atmospheric conditions in the surrounding areas. This means that forest fires not only affect the area where they happen but also, other closer areas. In this way woodfires are considered to have one of the most dangerous effects on air pollution as they carry toxic gases into air and their impact of these gases is very harmful for environment, air and all living beings, specially man.
Factories wastes and emission are another threat to quality of air as they increase pollutants in the air through many ways. The factories chimneys release large heavy amounts of smoke carrying tiny particles and dust into the air. Because of the biggest progress of technology in the field of industry, there is a large number of factories that produce various goods, for example the cement factories and the steel factories. Both types of factories have negative and dangerous effect on air. The effect of factories on air pollution depend on many factors, like the height of stack, air up thrust, weather conditions and others. Emetere & Akinyemi (2013) said from their theories, the effect of cement factories results from many aspects, the advection, diffusion, ground deposition and chemical transformation. The danger of air pollution coming from cement factories is the large ability of particles dispersion into the air. Steel factories which are specialized in producing iron and metals are a very heavy pollution source although poor detailed information exists about the results of air quality monitoring in the surrounding area. Zannetti (2006) stated the steel factory in Tornado, Italy is an example which clearly shows the effect of steel factory on the air. There is a severe air pollution that faces the population in that area.
The emissions from factories constantly increase the PAHs (phenylalanine hydroxylase) even exceeding the threshold limits in force, as well as BaP world health organization’s guidelines in living ambient even after full equipment of existing installation with the best techniques in that field. The result of research has proved that the diffusion from some coke-oven batteries one of the Europe's largest steel factories total concentrations as gases and solids absorbed into fine dust particles were found largely exceeding. In short both cement and steel factories affect largely on air as they release serious pollutants and toxic substances into the air. But if the stacks are lower, the effect will be less as it does not go up into air although it can have bad effects on soil and plants.
Transport vehicles have a great effect on air pollution as they change it through releasing smoke from burning fuel and noise into air. Kluizenaar, Len, Visschedijk, Zandveld, Miedema, Mackenbach (2013) they said it is one of the most dangerous effects and adds a lot to the pollution of air it is known that carbon dioxide is one of burning outputs and it is a toxic gas, so when it is released into air it makes it polluted, so when man breathes this polluted air, he feels difficulty in breathing, fatigue, lower blood pressure and lack in sight and hearing abilities it also leads to other diseases such as sore throat and breathing difficulties. This shows how far the smoke released from vehicle is very harmful for air and in turn for man's health. Butler (2008) Showed that traffic contributes with a great deal in air pollution and this is very clear in streets that have a large number of transport vehicles. This mean the rate of air pollution in busy streets is higher than in those with less number of vehicles. From what is mentioned in the sentence above, air pollution is largely affected by emission of vehicle fume which has many sources to increase. It involves particles formed inside the vehicle motor. Then these particles are mixed with rough ones coming from tyres friction and with dust suspended in the air. This mixture travels into the air and causes the largest part of air pollution. It is not only vehicle fume , but many other fraction are combined with it. This shows how much the over use of transport means is very harmful for people as it increases the pollutants of air. In fact air pollution largest effect results from the output of fossil fuel burning which is released from transport means and their effect in increasing the particles of dust travelling into the air. The worst thing released is carbon dioxide which damages the environment and affects badly on man's health.
In conclusion air pollution can be affected by many factors, but forest fires, factories emission and transport vehicles are ones of the most badly effective factors. Most of those factors release huge amounts of carbon dioxide, methane and oxides of nitrogen into the air. These emissions pollute the air and make it harmful for living begins and change of weather conditions. These emission on the far extent leads to increase in the ozone layer and this results in very cold winters and very hot summers. To protect the planet from destruction and air pollution, strict procedures must be taken.
