The challenges facing Hershey Company
Hershey’s is a company that deals in the manufacture of chocolates such as; seasonal, bars, packaged candy, spread, syrup and toppings (Hershey Company, 2010). The company as any other manufacturing company in the world may experience a couple of problems and challenges that might limit its growth in the products it manufactures.
Some of the external challenges that the company has faced include
Inaccessibility to some parts of the world
One of the most important problem that is faced by the company is its inability to access the entire parts of the world; this is as described in the website of the company under the category of ‘our story’ (Hershey Company, 2011). The company describes that it is making people happy in only 90 countries in the world. It therefore shows that the firm has inefficiently been capable of reaching the whole population in the world as may have been done by some of its rivals in the sector (Kim, 2012).
Competition
Over the time, the Hershey Company has had production of a wide range in chocolate products. However, most of the customers have not been able to effectively embrace these many flavors in the industry (Frank & Ellison, 2002). The cause of this could be poor advertisements or other factors, but over the time it has been detrimental to the firm.
Independent stores
Over the years, the competitors of the company have evolved from the era of independent and small stores to the era of consolidation. This has been detrimental to the operation of the the company since most of its competitors have been able to successfully conquer the world in the product sales (Sulon, 2003).
Pack type
Another challenge that the company has over the time experienced is that it is being triumphed by some of its rivals on its emphasis of pack type (Event brief of Q3, 2007).
