Introduction
It's always interesting learning about a teenager's brain because not many people understand what is going through it. The video helped us learn a little bit more about what's going on inside of a teen's brain among many other processes that are going on in the teenage body.
The video actually taught me a few things that I didn't know before. I wasn't aware that while humans go through puberty once, animals go through it multiple times once its breeding season. Also, many people believe that teenagers are just being lazy, but it’s not their laziness that makes them unproductive, it’s because their brains have just finished developing. A teenager’s brain also shows lower motivation.
Understanding Teenagers
Teenagers are notorious for their bad sleeping habits. All of us are guilty of sleeping extremely late as teenagers. When our parents would send us to bed, that makes it hard for us to go to sleep. It is actually very important for parents to understand why that it and that threats and punishments don't help the cause (Bernstein, 2016). Many parents of teenagers are unsure of how to deal with the teen's stress. We all know that being a teenager is one of the most awkward stages in our lives. We are seeking our identities, learning about sex and relationships, and more (Villanueva, 2015). Teens are stressed out mostly due to school, work, expectations, and social connections (Villanueva, 2015). If there's one thing that bothers teenagers, it's the fact that they usually do not have anyone to turn to in their time of need and/or helplessness. Teenagers are only spoken to, and reprimanded, whenever their emotions are causing an issue in the household. However, parents should know that it is best to speak to their teenager when they are happy; otherwise, trying to speak to teenagers when their emotions are flaring is the recipe for a disaster (Peipman, 2015).
Conclusion
More people should do their research on how a teenager functions, why they think and act the way they do, and how they can help them. If we took the time to understand teenagers, we'd understand that what they go through at times are just because of their brain activity, or lack thereof. It makes sense that if we always want to get into the brains of adults who are troublesome, then we should start looking into ways we can change our perception of teens and the ways they behave during the different phases and stages they go through in their teen years.
