I underwent a recent event which was quite traumatic in the beginning but turned out to be positive and peaceful at the end. We went to the mountainous area to enjoy the winter season and to witness the snowfall with the entire family. We were driving ourself in our own cars rather than hiring the public transportation or private pool cars. This was a long journey which required a lot of stamina and patience because it was a long drive for the men that they were not used to doing. We were accompanied by children and women.
The youngest child with us was 13 months old, and despite being well-covered, he caught a cold that turned into high-grade fever along with pneumonia. He went into severe distress, and we were unable to identify the main cause as we could see his feeble body and stiffening of the neck.
The journey that began with the excitement and love of snow turned into mental stress and trauma because when we took him to the main hospital in the city, we came to know that he is suffering from meningitis fever which can cause death if not treated properly. This was very disturbing to the family because the child had stopped responding and he did not even recognize his immediate family members as well as the parents. This means that some part of his brain was undergoing damage and he was facing memory loss.
We felt that it was a mistake to travel so far with kids this age and now one of the twin children was suffering from this painful disease. The child kept on sleeping and had stopped responding. He was only forced to eat that too without responding much. He was taken to 3-4 different specialists, but none was able to cure his disease.
There were no prominent rashes on his body which are the main symptoms of the meningitis fever. The child had stopped responding, and parents and family members had started to give up hope on his health as now he was being admitted to the intensive care unit which meant that he was in critical condition and due to lack of response doctors were worried that a lot of brain damage had occurred.
We were extremely worried that what if the disease became out of control and results in death because that is what this fever does. It attacks the brain directly and results in damage. His several tests were taken as he was in an unconscious state and these tests included taking fluids from his brain twice to check the amount of damage that has happened to his brain as he was having difficulty breathing and his pulses were declining to within the passage of hours.
When his brain test was taken, it was identified that his brain was not damaged and he was unconscious because of the shock he had suffered due to high fever. This was a sigh of relief for the parents as well as the family members. The child was given proper treatment, which helped him recover from his unconscious state and he started responding towards his parents and recognizing them. It took five days for him to fully recover and get discharged from the hospital. Everyone was extremely worried about his condition, but with God’s will, he recovered, and we traveled back home.
The journey that started with an ambition of enjoying the snowfall turned out into a troublesome situation where we had almost lost the child, but he recovered well and the journey overall ended positively.
