Aligning Operations Strategy with Company Strategy
The key element of any organization is to implement plan into action for the attainment of the company’s goals (Levi, David, 2010, pg. 28). This means that Marriot should emphasis on communication within the organization to make sure that employees are aware of the company’s strategy and engage the daily operations for a common goal. Employees should know how their different tasks and job specifications support the achievement of the organizations goals. Developing an understanding of the company’s goals, mission and vision to all employees enhances management’s communication of the company’s strategy and further implementation (Slack, Nigel, Lewis. 2011, pg. 36).
Marriott’s mission aligns with the company’s long-term goals. Its mission is to become top hospitality company globally while making customers enjoy Marriott’s experience. This means that it ought to have concrete strategies that ensure attainment of its vision and mission. Marriot attempts to achieve this through its operation strategy that entails: core competencies – putting customers first and ensuring that it minds the affairs of all employees through acts of respect, honesty, care, and ethical manner. This ensures employees give their best at work; competitive priorities – it achieves this through offering diverse services that incorporate low-cost options, providing high-quality experience to its customers, adopting diverse technological options to enhance customers experience, and incorporating value-added services that are aimed at making customer experience better and more enjoyable; strategic framework – Marriot adopts the element of differentiation with the aim of making their services appeal to a wider variety of customers while at the same time fulfilling the diverse needs of its customers.
Values help to shape the process of implementing core business goals (Bernd, 2011, pg. 45). Marriot has managed to instill in all employees its key values – pursuing excellence, maintaining integrity, and embracing change – and these have acted as guide to performing everyday tasks. Marriot also focuses environmental sustainability in its business operations where it ensures that it strives to make use of environmental friendly options in its operations.
