Quite often people cannot cope with the press of modern life. They get tired of their everyday activities and want to bring some changes in their lives. A perfect solution to this problem is to find a certain hobby that will make them happy and bring a lot of positive emotions in their lives. Indeed, some people claim that life without a hobby is not a life at all. Any hobby may bring people positive emotions, the feelings of happiness and joy. It may help people to distract themselves from their everyday problems and simply to relax. In general, learning something new is always useful. One of the possible hobbies that may be beneficial for every person is drawing. Thus, pursuing drawing as a hobby may help people notice the beauty around them, express their emotions and themselves, increase brain activity, and become more concentrated and more confident in their skills.
Furthermore, people may use drawing as a tool to express themselves. This kind of art makes it easier for a person to express one’s feelings and emotions. For example, when people are angry or sad, they may use dark colors in their paintings. They may draw pictures of rolling sea or dark forest. On the contrary, when people are happy they will use only bright colors and will be drawing only positive images. In any case, drawing and painting will increase their mood. Drawing is also beneficial due to the fact that, with its help people will be able to transfer their emotions to the paper. As Blanco stated, “Making those emotions flow through painting helps create harmony between the heart and mind, which leads us to experiment happiness, love, empathy and peace” (Blanco, 2013). It is clear that drawing may help people to show who they are and to learn more information about other people as well. This point of view is supported by Karli who examined the benefits of drawing for children and claimed that “drawing and coloring is an activity that directly describe their feelings” (Karli, 2013). That is why it is possible to say that drawing is a perfect activity that may help people of all ages to express themselves, their feelings, and their emotions.
Another significant benefit of painting lies in the fact that it increases brain activity. Thus, “drawing and painting stimulate both the left and right brain hemispheres” (Blanco, 2013). The first is responsible for logic and rationality while the second is responsible for creativity and imagination. That is why if a person wants to pursue a hobby that will be both entertaining and useful, he or she should chose drawing. For instance, when people want to draw a certain object they should use their logic in order to decide how to draw this exact object. They should think of what lines to draw, what color to use, what texture. It is also worth mentioning that drawing may improve eye-hand coordination and memory. Thus, while painting a specific object, one must memorize its main parts and shape in order to reproduce the same object on the paper. Even if the object is quite simple such as a table or a book, each person will have to apply to his or her memory. It is clear that when a person wants his painting to be close to the original, he or she should activate his or her memory. It should be also noted that drawing stimulates people’s imagination. For example, when people want to draw a new object they have to think about the way it will look like, about its shape and its size. At this rate, they will be constantly applying to their imagination in order to create something new. In fact, drawing is a perfect tool that “makes a person become more creative in thinking and able to create new things” (Karli, 2013). All in all, it is evident that such kind of art as drawing is beneficial for person’s mental health and brain activity.
It is also important to mention that drawing may help people to become more concentrated and more confident in their skills. Thus, spending hours drawing some landscape or creating something new teaches people to become more concentrated. While drawing, they distract themselves from everything else and are fully dedicated to their hobby. This skill may be extremely useful in life as it teaches people not to be distracted by trivia. Moreover, it may improve people’s self-esteem. When people complete their drawings they always feel proud of themselves. To create a beautiful picture is always a great achievement which may strengthen people’s self-esteem.
